    UTEP Basketball Recruiting

A bit of tongue in cheek there Natty. It was more a reference to where CUSA currently stands in terms of pecking order to other conferences, which does affect recruiting (not in a good way). Also, I do like Barnes (Tarleton) and Grant (Temple JC), and I am hoping they do sign. If both do sign...

Lol. I guess Golding has been playing 3-D chess the whole time. 😉

We also got stomped at home by Seattle U. , who finished in fourth place in the WAC. At this point, I'd be mildly surprised if we can even steal a player from Tarleton St. 😉

All conference 1st Team. Stats linked here look better. 😉

That is correct. Devon Barnes visited this weekend, but hasn't committed.

    UTEP Basketball Recruiting

Last year, Barnes shot nearly 40% from 3 pt range, and 86% from the line. He's small, but would provide another scoring option in the backcourt.

Maybe we can get Batcho 😀

I think he is a solid pickup. Similar to how we viewed Camper last year. Hopefully, Bynum adjusts back quickly to D1 level, and can minimize the up and down issues we saw with Camper. In terms of roster construction, I view Bynum as a guy who can come right in and take a good chunk of...

    Transfer Portal

My guess is that Dimel felt he could adjust the offense to better fit Hardison; an old coach just being too stubborn. We saw how much better the offense looked under Brownholtz, albeit for a small sample size. I also think Locksley could have had success playing behind a better OL (like last...

    Transfer Portal

I'm probably in the minority, but I would have liked to have seen what Hardison could do under the Walden offense. Hardison was never a fit for Dimel's offense which relied on a running threat at the position.

I heard it was an eligibility issue with Mbengue at DePaul.

    Basketball Roster

I agree Natty. I was thinking Golding would also look to upgrade the Hebb role player spot, but maybe between Hebb and Horton, he anticipates being ok. Neither one of those two are great defensively, but I think Horton still has room to grow.

FWIW, I did hear some positive things regarding Bynum from his visit. I believe another JC Forward also visited (may have been Dickerson). There are still some very solid JC guys available that could contribute right away. I think bringing in 2 JCs and 2 D1 transfers would be a solid strategy.

Not too surprised with this move. Golding needs to bring in better options in my opinion. Hopefully this move is in anticipation of just that.

Coach Scotty 1st year Spring Practice

Senter indicated that any new staff was not a result of additional funding. Sounded more like a reallocation of existing funds.

    UTEP Basketball Recruiting

UTEP was in Brown-Jones' top three a couple of years back (he had an OV to El Paso), when he ended up going to UNC-Greensboro. Realistically, any chance for Golding to get Brown-Jones was missed at that time.

He's not what they need as far as a scorer, but he is a big upgrade over Hebb defensively. If this was a one for one trade (which I don't think it is), I would take Venzant.
