Unfortunately, the only way to compete in today's Division 1 college world is with $$$ of which UTEP has minimal resources. What does UTEP Athletics do to survive? Football and Basketball at the D1 level have become essentially professional sports. Saying these athletes are student athletes...- centex-miner

Unfortunately, the UTEP AD's comments (while supportive of the effort for the team) are telling about the competitive nature of the athletic department and its direction which to me seems to lack vision of competitiveness. My $.02....which isn't worth much..... With what UTEP has in place at the moment (i.e., AD, Administration, coaching), I think UTEP's strategy should be to work towards having a team get an upper half seed (1-5) in the CUSA Tourney and peak during the CUSA tournament to win it. Monahans has a really nice arena (almost college like), you can see the seats and the scoreboard in the video. It plays host to regional/area playoffs each year.- centex-miner

NMSU beating Auburn 24-7 at Auburn 8:39 remaining. They have the same recruiting issues as UTEP. NMSU is 8-3 on season. This shows there is something wrong with UTEP Athletics.- centex-miner
