The two unrated El Paso QBs are better than a former four star elite 11 recruit.
I wanted to give him a pass last year because of the busted finger, but he is all over the place.
Ummm if kugler wants to have any chance to save his job he better go with Torres this kid had the "It" factor!
I didn't see much in Torres. He was OK, but not great. Let's keep in mind everyone knew the game was out of reach by the time he dazzled all of u.
Torres has a strong arm but very very raw. We won't win this year with the performance he showed tonight.
Aside from Jones and Hernandez there isn't another player on that field that has shown anything. If we are staring at 0 wins this year imagine what's gonna happen next year when they're gone?
Doesn't matter who the QB is. There's nothing available to put on the field that creates any semblance of a football TEAM. Almost every position on both sides of the ball is lacking. We not only appear to hopelessly bound for a winless season, but not likely to even be competitive with any opponent the rest of the way. Check out N. Tex today

Torres is a pretty good athlete but not a d1 qb. His accuracy and mechanics are awful. He telegraphes his passes. They can find a spot for him but it isn't qb. I would like to see Fernandez play, however it would be really unfair to throw a true freshman into the middle of this dumpster fire. However, it may happen because they can't keep running greenlee and Torres out there.
I do like Torrez and while last night might not be a true indication of what to expect from him(it was his first real amount of action, in mop-up time of a blow-out game, against a P5 team), it should be noted that things did go down hill pretty fast for him after the nice start. He only finished 6 for 21, which is a terrible 28% completion percentage. The biggest concern is that he is not very tall and he had a number of passes knocked down at the line of scrimmage. On the positive side; I mentioned this in my Spring Game Summary and I will say it again, I do love how Torrez keeps his eyes down the field, even when he is scrambling. He is better at that than any of our current 3 QB's. I watched him warm-up and he has a good arm. He also has good legs and good mobility. Whether he is our best long term option or not?, I am not sure about that. But I definitely like having him on our team, even if it is in a back-up role.
We probably are not beating NMSU this year regardless of who our QB is. But in my opinion, our only chance in that game will be if Metz returns healthy. I just don't see Torrez(at this point of his career) or Greenlee being able to keep things together for 4 quarters. It is sad that we have now reached a point where we have to list the breaks that must go our way in order for us just to have a chance against NMSU.

Greenlee's passes were all over the place. Torrez showed some escapability and he took some deicent shots downfield, one of which could have been a TD if not for a heck of a play by the DB. He threaded that ball into triple coverage. I want to see how he's going to do next week knowing he's the starter and taking first team reps.
He wasn't that great. Once the defense figured him out quickly we saw mostly 3 and outs and passes to no one.
Metz is the starter and best QB on the team when healthy. The problem is the offense, not Metz IMO.
Kugler was just looking for a reason to pull Greenlee. I'm not sure why he is even 2nd string if that's the case. Kugler is scared to just pull the trigger with his players. Not starting Metz at the beginning of the season last year was a mistake.
Our wildcat is straight trash. Just get rid of it.

Aside from the first drive, which was saved by a roughing the passer penalty, we saw three drives end 3-and-out followed by two 4 play turnovers on downs.
The wildcat is the stupidest thing can run when your normal offense can barely move the ball.
I agree..unless you're at the goal line and will run up the gut this play is a waste of a down.
Remember the year that Vittitoe was injured and JT III shredded NMSU out of the wildcat? That kid was fast, unlike Kavika. Kavika is a way better receiver though.
We wish him the best. UTEP needs to free-up even more football scholarships in order to sign the abundance of available JUCO, transfer, and high school talent created by the circumstances surrounding COVID.
Mack Leftwich is an assistant coach there so I guess it makes sense
