College Football 2021- Post Covid Edition

A big concern to me is that we are only 26 days away from our first game, yet according to Dimel just last week, we still don't know what the Covid guidelines will be this upcoming year. What will be the game week testing requirements?, guidelines for exposure with a vaccinated player vs. non-vaccinated player?, etc.

First off, anything is possible.

Now with that being said, that article is not based on anything except possible political pull in their respective state government and even that is not sourced to anything.

MW offer way more than any, yes WKU, ODU and Marshall this mean you all, CUSA teams combined.

ODU, just because you build a new stadium that doesn't mean diddly. Win something.

UTSA gets out their "Joshua Horn" every year and makes claims of some deserving promised land. Just leave them alone and don't tell them they're in a sand box.

WKU brought in a five star recruit, want P5 love from D1 gods and still to this very day the best thing they given to college sports is their mascot, "Big Red". I really like Big Red.

Marshall and USM fire good coaches, often. How in the heck can you build anything? Not even Texas fires their coaches that fast. Firing Doc Holliday was a stupid knee jerk move without sleeping on it. Doc brought CUSA much needed respect. Who wants programs that Barney Fife with their guns.

UTEP lives off rich history and that brings in some revenue for those "Texas Western" hats and T shirts and occasional good pub from it. We blew our chances going to the MWC. The pretty girl asked us out, twice according to some unverified sources. She now has big money eyeing her. It's over El Paso, Let's learn from it and move on.

FIU/FAU. CUSA freshman players get to see Miami.

UNT. Ahhhhh, good ol Mean Green. One MAGA loving politician in the state legislature, that's all you got. Big XII leftovers would rather take Rice back and you all know it.

MTSU. Ok this article says they have no big money and no great political pull but they have built up, are a realistic program who are committed to winning and don't whine to the media "I want out" every year like UNT, UTSA and ODU. MTSU is a good mid major to be for UTEP but the feeling is not reciprocal due to distance and not a natural rival.

La Tech. CUSA needs La Tech. They compete every year in major revenue sports and win their bowl games against P5 schools.

CUSA's best member UAB. They do deserve a ton of respect especially since a Roll Tide booster killed UAB football. UAB put up a Battle of Thermopylae fight and brought it back. Sadly, CUSA doesn't need their Alabama state nor UAB politics, not because of what happened but because UAB will a) not give basketball it's full support like UTEP does it's program and that's a shame and b) no way in hell AAC or leftovers from Big XII "mashup" happen. UAB lived off Memphis rivalry and since their departure UAB (and CUSA) have not been the same.

Damn UTSA isn’t messing around. It’s only a matter of time before they upgrade to a better conference.
That $25 million basketball/volleyball facility will just be for practice. That won’t buy shit -arena wise today. They will still be playing in that dump. Practice facilities aren’t shown on TV. UTEP has a new practice facility too.

Basketball is irrelevant in realignment. UTSA has been smart and shown they are committed to football. That and their market will sell. UTEP has wasted tons money on a terrible hoops program. Seven years ago we were warned we needed to invest in football or UTSA and UNT would pass us like SMU and UH had a decade earlier. Now it's not hyperbole we have been passed by UTSA and UNT. It is utterly sickening how poorly this athletic department has been run.

Yeah basketball is mostly irrelevant. However, UTSA and UNT were going to catapult ahead of us once they joined CUSA. It didn’t help our cause becoming one of the worst programs in the country.

Any program in a metro area will surpass a really bad UTEP football program. That is no surprise. However, UTSA isn’t headed to the Big 12 with their basketball arena. Maybe the AAC if things bounce in their favor. But the AAC isn’t taking UTEP no matter what.

If needed UTSA could play games in the AT&T Center. The Convocation Center is not an issue to anybody but UTEP fans. It's perfectly fine for CUSA level basketball. It certainly won't stop them from joining another conference. With no NHL team there are plenty of open dates and UTSA could easily play their entire schedule at the AT&T center.

That is beyond stupid on their part. Why would they rent the ATT Center for 2,000 people for games versus UAB and FIU?

Not for CUSA games. They would do this if they were in the AAC or Big 12. That's why the convocation center is not an issue.
You’re crazy if you’re renting the ATT center for ECU, Temple, Tulane, and everyone expect SMU and Houston. Nobody cares about UTSA basketball. Playing ECU and Temple isn’t going to change that.

Nobody cares because they play in a low major league. Put them in power conference with a state of the art practice center and NBA arena and they could be a top 50 program. Basketball you only need one player to change your program. Put them in a power conference with those facilities. Then factor the amount of blue chips that come out of Texas and you have a recipe for success.

Of course this is only possible if their football program continues on an upward trajectory. They seem like they will invest the neccesary money to maintain a good program. They're worthless to any conference without a good football program. Unlike UTEP their administrators realize that.

Unfortunately, SA hardly supports UTSA. The majority that care about college football are t-shirt Longhorn and Aggie fans. But hell, with the Spurs rebuilding for the next couple years, anything is possible.
Their RACE Facility is a huge Campos accomplishment. If Traylor meets the expectations for the year, they both will be on larger school radars.

UTSA builds a new facility and they and most on here lose their shat and both think they belong with BXII leftovers.

UAB has a good hospital (is literally keeping Alabamians alive from around the state intake because they refuse the Covid Vax) and does medical research and actually wins the conference and it's crickets?

UTSA is a commuter school, just like UTEP, they target the same 3* Texas prospects. Academically UTEP might be better, but to most student athletes that is not an issue. To most people in Texas, if given the choice to go play in El Paso, or go watch their relative in El Paso, versus San Antonio, the choice is easy. Add deeper pockets and it's no surprise they passed us in football.

That’s a lot to digest.

I would love to believe the story on Hankins. Knowing Dimel he's going to give a heavy load to Wadley, regardless if he's back to his old form or not. Gotta reward those seniors for their loyalty.
