"Quarterback: Edge UTEP

For different reasons, both teams have played three different quarterbacks. Kai Locksley needs to look like he did against Rice, against a team defense that looks a little like Rice. WKU sophomore Steve Duncan has been the Toppers’ most consistent option.

Running back: Edge UTEP
The return of Quardraiz Wadley to full form has elevated UTEP’s running game even as the Miners have lost that dimension from the quarterback position. Freshman Joshua Samuel has been steady if unspectacular for Western Kentucky.

Receivers: Edge WKU
UTEP could get a boost as Warren Redix appears set to return from injury, though how much he’ll be able to play will have to be seen. The Hilltoppers use a bunch of different receivers, as five of them have caught between 31 and 41 passes.

Offensive line: Edge WKU
The Miners just haven’t had any luck here, and now Zuri Henry is out again. They are starting to develop some experience here but haven’t been able to get continuity with personnel. With three sophomores and two juniors, WKU actually has an experience edge.

Defensive line: Edge WKU
UTEP has made big strides here in the first year of Mike Cox’s defense; now the Miners must improve in the pass rush. The Toppers have 9.5 sacks from their line, led by sophomore DeAngelo Malone’s three.

Linebackers: Edge UTEP
How close is this one? UTEP’s best player, A.J. Hotchkins, is second in Conference USA with 105 tackles. WKU’s Ben Holt is third with 104. Jumar Smith is playing at a high level for the Miners."

UTEP should have won last time at WKU but had a melt down that started with a pic 6 and sparked a topper comeback. That game was a spark club for the next two years of success for WKU with a lethal offensive punch that sent Coach Brohm seeing greener pastures at Purdue.
