Football recruiting -- it's onnnnnnn

Fresh meat for you Orange United: New NCAA regs have opened the recruiting calendar for official campus visits through June 24.

This means UTEP is now paying to fly top prospects to El Paso, showing them around town and making the vital decisions about who gets offered, who gets slow-played. Early signing period in December and final signing date, first Wednesday in February, 2019, remain the same.

Translation: For the 2019 recruiting class, it is onnnnnnn. The new UTEP staff is swinging for the fences.

This very day, right under your local noses, Coach Dana Dimel's crew could be hosting a hot prospect -- maybe a handful at once -- and tendering offers for the 2019 class.

Full disclosure: I bleed orange, buy season tix and try to watch the program closely. But I live 300 miles from campai. Hey, you non-res spies, we need your eyes and ears on the ground, too.

Who's visiting Oxford on the Interstate? Who's getting offered?

Bear down out there, you local Miners. Monitor social media as you never have.

Go forth, slay some legit info, and drag it back here to the cave.

How about you, FiliUTEP? Enlighten me. Entertain me. Make me think. Make me laugh.

There seems to be suspicion in the air. On another thread, one poster said I smell like a rat. I'm so new to this, what does that mean?

No, I played at UTEP -- back in the leather helmet days -- but never coached for money, only as a volunteer in local youth leagues. Both were gratifying experiences.

You haven't told me anything about yourself, my man.

Did you by chance play at the same time as Bob Stewart, Mike Rhoades, Darby Mayfield, etc?

Sure did. Stew was QB on the varsity my freshman year, when frosh were NCAA ineligible. Mike Rhoades was one of our freshman coaches under head coach Bobby Dobbs.

Darby is younger than those two, so we played together against teams in the old Western Athletic Conference -- Utah, BYU, Arizona, UNM, Ariz State, Colo State and Wyo. Darby has long since moved from El Paso to East Texas, and I remain good friends. I get to see Darby about once a year, at a UTEP home game.

Man, you are reaching back. Move to the head of the class. Not every student of UTEP football would know those cats.

I only know them because my dad ran with those guys. Saw them all quite a bit as I was growing up. My pops has remained good friends with both Mike and Darby. In fact I saw Darby about a year or year and a half ago. Great guy!

Good stuff, FanatiCoog. You have send nearly 2,400 messages. Egad. When do you sleep?

Haha. I wasn’t aware of that but since you mentioned it I took a look. Did the math and I average about 3 messages a day. Sounds about right to me.

You should be there in no time. You’re on pace to pass me up in about 6 months, my friend.

Nice try El Paso 7777

You are so wrong fili...this is not chi. Chi was nowhere this clever nor so obviously educated. This cat is a welcome addition here. Btw, chi is lurking as El Paso 1. Bet on it. Me, quite awhile back I was allminer. Got kicked off, gave myself about an 8 month penance. Back, but much calmer now.

I had been wondering what happened to allmimer. I remember the classic flame wars you used to have with alvinosports.

Maybe you forum warriors should start a new and separate thread, entitled "Waste Time But Make Your Sad-self Feel Good While Clowning Total Strangers."

Consider?
Sorry for derailing your thread. As the months turn into years around here you tend to develop online friendships with certain members. One does worry how an active good poster disappears from one day to the next.

Catching your drift, JCorona. Quickly, you forum vets are schooling me on this landscape, while I sit on the back row, chunking spit wads.

BTW, I have been active here because I have been in the office, with time to prattle. I travel some, researching my next book, so my productivity here will not always be so balls-out gonzo.

Post away, man. You offer up some good stuff. What’s your latest book about?

The Big Shootout ... 1969 Arkansas-Texas game for the national title, set against the chaotic backdrop of the Sixties.

This would include but not be limited to: Vietnam war, acid rock, bra burnings, assassinations, the military draft, race riots, peace marches on campuses, drugs, President Richard Nixon sitting in the stands.

Hope to finish in time for an autumn 2018 release.

BTW, get some old-timer to tell you about the so-called Chicano takeover of the UTEP admin building. Hint: El Paso P.D. showed up in riot gear, off-loaded a bus, marched down the street in front of then-new Student Union building. The takeover didn't last long, as Hispanic kids -- who didn't really know why they were protesting -- got dragged out by their heels. Tee-hee.

Coach Bobby Dobbs had gotten wind of the protest the night before. At practice, he warned the team not to even go near the place. Of course, we did it any way. The cops were nothing if not efficient. While they took names and kicked butt, a half-dozen of us Miners sat on the little knob across from what is now Centennial Plaza, watching the brief fracas, with high glee.

So “Chi” is back, but no one is sure who it is. That’s funny. I guess a new fan can’t just pop up without being accused of being someone else.

Allminer got banned, but no one seems to have a problem with him signing up under a new name. Double standard I guess?

Shovel, it's one thing to get thrown out a time or 2 for being an over zealous fan. It's another thing to be a troll and your only purpose is to cause havoc. Chi has been banned at LEAST 6 times that I can count (possibly a LOT more) and you have been several as well. Not because you guys are excitable fans, but cuz you are trolls.

No double standard. Trolls should be banned and not allow to resurface. But hey.....

I cannot speak for chi, but I am not a troll. I just like facts and hate preposterous predictions and scenarios. You know how long it’s been since the Miners have won certain things. I would be more optimistic if those happened recently. Until they do, well....

Information is appreciated. Claiming Paul Thomas is the next KD is laughable and just as “trolly” as anything I post you consider “trolling”. Just because you don’t like how I say it, doesn’t mean it’s wrong. My stuff is backed up with facts and comparisons.

That will be the downfall of me one day. Fighting the trolls in the honor of UTEP. If I do get banned I will return and I won’t deny my identity.

Chi etc etc jumps right back in and never ever admits to who he is, which is ridiculous considering he is so obvious. I don't know how many times I tried telling the young man he could gain some credibility by admitting it at least. I waited 8 months, a little self imposed penance as it were, and you know who I am, or was. A little tact, humor, and respect of others goes a long way. Thanks for the welcome back gentlemen.

Who the hell are you? What gives you the cred to vouch for anyone.

Sense some sort of vague turf battle. Then again, I could be dead-beat wrong.

I'm so new to this forum prattle, I wonder bff means, and how some posters get customized images over the little r logo, and how I wound up with a silver shield. What I know would fill a thimble.

"Who the hell are you" sounds a little confrontational. I'm just some Miner fan who visits this forum occasionally.
I played with him and lived in Miners Hall with him. I'm not sure if that gives me the cred to vouch for him but I'll vouch for him anyway.

Okay, Old Miner 420, when is it my turn to ask who's ripping my shorts here?

As you well know, homeboy, I am a dainty, extremely thin-skinned, sensitive kind guy. New online experience is about to melt this snowflake.

Suddenly, I suffer from hair envy.
So two old Miner players from the same era, posting on here at the same time with brand spanking new accounts, vouching for each other...okay I'll buy it. But you have to agree with me that the Aggies SUCK! and any former Aggies aren't fit to wash Miner jock straps.

When I'm gone from this forum, rest assured I'm dead.

I've been on this forum since 2011. I rarely post anything because I rarely have anything to say. HeWore62 and I aren't best friends and I don't think we've ever spoken on the phone. We see each other once a year at a home game. We're usually at the hotel on campus. You should stop by, maybe he'll will buy you a beer.
I'm not too up to date on internet rules. I didn't know I had to post a resume in order to vouch for someone.

This board has been plagued by repetitious dolts who resurface under numerous handles. Naturally, people are suspicious of new posters.

My opinion: Even if you were one of these aforementioned posters, the fact that you'd have (hypothetically) changed your obnoxious writing style would be a welcome change, regardless...
