Man...I wish we had a player now who could score baskets like he could. DJ was clutch and a great Miners ball player.

Jackson was one of our best offensive players in recent history. You could count on Jackson when the game was close. The guy was also a great free throw shooter and always gave 100% effort.

DJ was a great scorer, had some great games as a Miner and he represented UTEP well, but he was a prime example of a guy who can have all the talent in the world and still not make his teammates any better. Glad to see he's still hanging in there and making a living playing ball.

He still holds the all-time college basketball record for most free throws made in a season. As far as I know that's the only major NCAA record held by a Miner.

(Julyan Stone graduated as the NCAA career leader in assist/turnover ratio, but his record has since been broken.)

In his senior season, Stefon Jackson was a leader. He played like a senior and wanted the ball in those critical moments. Our team this past season lacked a Stefon Jackson, and I think that's why Vince Hunter played so frustrated sometimes. He was a sophomore forced into a senior role, so he made lots of boneheaded mistakes, but the seniors who should have stepped up failed us in that regard.

If we had a Stefon Jackson on the team, we wouldn't have suffered so many of those long cold spells. We don't blow that huge lead to Southern Miss, for sure, and the same for Western Kentucky. We probably don't suffer those slow starts in the close losses to Washington and Arizona.

I would argue he made everybody better. He carried the team his last two years when there was not a ton of talent here.

DJ is better than any 4 year player Floyd has recruited, hands down. And he was recruited by a guy who "couldn't recruit" (Doc), at least according to some "smart" posters here.
