John, A Question about the point system

How does it work?

Rivals rates the following recruiting class like this:
83 NMSU 2.11 stars, they have 2 three star recruits, 19 commitments
87 UTEP 2.27 avg stars we have 6 three star recruits I believe ours is over 23

It doesn't make any sense.

How can there class be rated higher than ours?

I looked Gold and the only thing I found.....

is 3 star recruits with a 5.6 rating or above seem to have a variable number of points associated with them versus anyone with a 5.5 or below seems to be more fixed. I haven't quite figured out the exact figures but if you look at schools with more points that seems to be the differentiator.

Sorry Gold....it appears its related to the player being

ranked as a top player either in their state or in some other special category like position, juco or prep school. Again I don't know how they assign points.

I noticed yesterday we kept dropping in team rankings all day and our class or the other classes didn't change significantly. It is a hard to comprehend. If you look at the Memphis recruiting class compared to NMSU, it becomes even more complex.

Incidentally, any thoughts on who the three local walk-ons might be?

We're looking into the point system. There was the same problem with the TCU point total.

When I get an answer, I'll let you know. I've been out of town since Thursday.
