Miner Mascot

I've always hated that metrosexual version. I've never seen a metrosexual miner and doubt that one even exists. UTEP needs to go back to a rugged looking miner. Enough with the correctness and OUT with the metrosexual!
Out of all the incarnations, the one in the 80’s looks like a porn star (and one I strongly dislike). I miss the one on the right that had a brief existence. The one from the late 60’s early 70’s isn’t bad (left if picture). All mascots cane be found at the heritage house on campus, where this picture was taken

Man, I'd even take the one on the right in that photo. He may look like Gabby Johnson from the movie Blazing Saddles but at least he looks like a real miner!

Nope. All John Holmes with black hair. The short portly one from the 80's they had for a while was Ron Jeremy.
The "Jay Leno" was retired when the logo changed. That suit was in shambles and stunk too. The "transient " Pete on the right was loose so the person inside could tumble, but fans didn't like it. The current Pete is popular because he can change shirts and pants for each sport.
There won't be a mascot switch anytime soon unless someone is willing to donate a few million for a logo change and about $10,000 for a new character.

How dare you mess with Paydirt Pete. Pete is good looking mascot. He beats red grimace that WKU has. Also, he has a twin in Pirate Pete at ICC.

Unfortunately the suit was not well cared for over the years. It also was not designed well. The head was ridiculously heavy and hard to see out of. One time Louie and Lucy Lobo did a school boy on him and he fell hard on his head.
Two metrosexuals who's "socially acceptable" time has long since passed. Real miners don't look like that.

Found out today that this mascot suit no longer exists. It was in such bad shape that it completely fell apart (described as "disintegrated") years ago. Not a surprise.
