Miners Add a Hoops Game...Kinda

3 sub d1 games. Makes no sense at all. Games that don't count and do nothing to help the team. This another completely dumbfounding decision. WTF!

You may not have noticed, but No D1 schools are willing to come to El Paso to play. We did go on the road to play 3 top 40 teams (UA, ASU and St. Marys) Even NMSU left the area and is not coming back to play a game.

You can't put this on the coaches. The game they just scheduled is just giving the players a break from playing against each other.

All these gimmick games to make his coaches appear better than they are. We’re in a middle of a pandemic, how about we stop wasting money on excuses why to keep these guys. Turn off the lights in the Sun Bowl and Don and go out there and beat real teams. SMH.

Yet we won't play NMSU.

NMSU asked for permission from the Governor and Gov said ok, but with parameters and must stay locked down; it's bubble city for the team and essential staff.

NMSU Basketball: Gets Covid, again.

"Aggies continue to quarantine at Arizona Grand Resort & Spa in Phoenix, where they relocated to on Nov. 17 due to state restrictions in New Mexico."

We've known teams won't come to El Paso. We can get plenty of games against d1 schools on the road or at neutral sites. Half the d1 schools are looking for games. Without fans we aren't making money from home games anyways. Go get better play teams on the road. D111 games do nothing for the players program.

So after tomorrow they will have played 5 games, 3 of which are against #14 Arizona #31 St. Mary's and #54 Arizona State. Yet you still complain about the quality of teams they are playing. Some people look past the facts and just won't be happy.

I don't thinks it's advantageous to only have three non conference games before conference play. Especially considering the fact they may very well beat ASU and then with no games that momentum dies.

Do you have any idea what's going on in the world? Duke has shut down all of their non conference games. Many programs have already shut down for at least two weeks because of positive tests. The UTEP coaches are doing the best they can given the circumstances. NMSU has zero D1 games scheduled before conference play.

Most D1 schools are playing games within a bus ride so they don't have to get on a plane or stay in hotel. UTEP is isolated and has very few D1 schools within a bus ride. They are playing pretty much all of them considering the NM schools aren't playing games. St Mary's was really a stretch considering the distance they had to go.

To complain about nonconference scheduling this year is just ignorant.

Add to the fact that UTEP basically has to pay to play these road games.......St Mary's didn't pay cab fare, not sure about Arizona but bet it wasn't much. But why should we take the financial to play on the road for every one who want's a game?

I guarantee you we are paying something to these sub d 1 schools to play. Their budgets are miniscule. We are losing money to host them as well and they don't count as real games.

True and this was the very reason why schools should have tried to do regional bubbles
