That guy gives enormous money. If he wanted a picture of Elvis on the floor he'd probably get serious consideration simply due to his contributions.

The argument there was that the "Miners" the school was named for were not coal miners. It was closer to the prospector who led around Clyde, the donkey who was the live mascot before Paydirt Pete.
Here I thought it was because UTEP was founded as the School of Mines and Metallurgy.
It was, but it was metal mining and they didn't wear hardhats like that. There used to be a prospector who guided Clyde. This became the basis for Pete.

Modern metal miners do wear hardhats like that. It's a matter of safety.

Thing about this is you can vote for what you like, but it's not an election. They already have their design set. The "winner" means nothing. It's more a way to get donations
