OT: All options are on the table for NMSU (part II)

I was thinking the same thing. Just because they're from Las Cruces doesn't make them bad people. We're gthem anyway, aren't we?. Why not get some easy roadkill into the conference?

I'm beginning to agree. We play them every year in all sports. Why not make the FB game a conference game played on rivalry weekend at the end of the season. That would open up another OOC game. It would not help the strength factor in C-USA football but does having UNT, UTSA, Charlotte, F_U's help? They would raise the conference in mbb which is important to UTEP and a few other schools in the conference. They would also be a good travel partner for UTEP in all sports that benefit from that.

Bring those bastards on. I know it's a competitive advantage for us, to have them in an inferior conference, but it hasn't really gotten us anywhere. In Bball they kick our ass, in football we win but watch out for their 2016 football team, big time trap game for Kugler. Anyhow, open the gates, time to help little brother out.

The are more positives to their addition as well. We would no longer be the outpost we currently are and I would imagine they would act with UTEP as a voting block and support items such as having the B-Ball tourney here. (word is CUSA is going to make Birmingham the permanent site). They would upgrade B-Ball and their attendance as weak as it is better than most in our conference. I think the negative side is moving them to a conference game. Football wise it is hard for UTEP to find home and home partners out of conference now, we would lose that and this means likely UTEP would be playing another money game or a Non FBS opponent as a replacement. Plus we draw better when we play each other. If they drop down a level this could hurt UTEP schedule wise as they are not going to play 2 FBS schools (UNM and UTEP) each year. I think UTEP better assist them in anyway possible to keep them FBS, in a conference etc. They are our best rival and make a easy travel destination for UTEP in all sports. Besides I would much rather play them than 90% of the teams in our conference.

This is a cruel cold world. Every man for themselves. Nobody tries helping us out. We don't have UNM, Colorado St and other former members pushing for us to get into the MW. I also don't hear SMU, Houston and others making noise about us joining the AAC. We need every advantage we can have over NMSU. Remember nice guys always finish last. So I say screw it and let them fend for themselves.

It is a cruel world but acting independently has rewarded us how? This is not a dog eat dog game, but a big dog eats little dog one and UTEP and NMSU are little dogs. All mid majors like UTEP are being squeezed and today it is NMSU, the day will come when it will be SMU or Houston, CSU and UTEP we just think it couldn't happen to us. All schools at FBS status have seen us locked out of scheduling, punished unjustly, denied tourney bids and TV revenue by this idea of acting independently. College Athletics is not a free market, is not democratic and rules and regulation are made to benefit certain membership, not us. Why do we continue to act as if this is not affecting UTEP?, are we holding out hope that we will somehow overcome this situation and an become a BCS player, all by ourselves? leave everybody else behind? Does any Miner fan really believe our athletic prowess, a few years of success will be rewarded with UTEP being invited to the excusive club? If we continue along this route of only seeing and fighting this as an independent issue, college athletics will continue to see all power, decision making in the hands of a few. I am not just advocating for NMSU, but for all the Texas States, UNMs, Rice's of the college football world who have somehow watched their athletic programs moved to the back of the bus and still behave and act independently as if they were fully responsible for this occurring and that only they can lift themselves out of this.

We just took a big hit on our television revenue. Now you want to split that pie 1 extra time. NO THANKS!

Then we'd have to recruit against them every year into the same conference. NO THANKS AGAIN!

NMSU does not move the needle in El Paso. We dominate our market. It would be dumb to give up a share of the market to NMSU. They would never be a big player in this market but its dumb to give NMSU a market share they dont have.

With oil down and New Mexico in a bad economic place, I dont think they will continue to fund fbs football at nmsu. When they were denied full admission to the sun belt last year that was a huge blow to them. If they would have been admitted to the sun belt as a full member, I bet cuda would have poached them. However, with the sun belt passing them over there is no way cusa will extend an invite.

While we are at it we should also invite Idaho. Pick up the Sun Belt rejects. Expand to 16 teams. Further dilute the conference. Break up into four pods. West Pod: Idaho, UTEP, NMSU NT. Central Pod: UTSA, RICE, La Tech, USM. Southeast Pod: UAB, FAU, FIU, Charlotte. North east Pod: WKU, MT, Marshall, ODU.

This way we should win our pod every year.

Further dilute our conference??? Playing at Pan American in front of 4500 is a hell of lot better than the 1/2 the high school gyms and "crowds" we play in front of now. Football wise they would fit right in with the rest of the 2-10 wonders in CUSA. CUSA Rejects, Sun Belt Rejects same difference.

You're absolutely right. Let's start a petition to have them join. Since we are going to have a hard time convincing the other 13 presidents to vote yes for NMSU we can offer to sacrifice our share of the tv revenue. Maybe we can lend them a million for their entrance fee too. We have to help them out. Pobrecitos.

F them, if it were the other way around I guarantee those bastards would be dancing and hollering...oh and a few "go back to Mexico" chants as well. Screw them!

NMSU has their fans who spew nasty opinions of UTEP, this is a game changer that could change a long and well documented rivalry. This is a historical decision of the I-10 rivalry....possibly.
