Pretty interesting article. I would hope that UTEP will get some of the same attention if they win a bowl game for the first time in over 50 years.

Well, NMSU won a bowl game, so logic would dictate that NMSU had some decent recruits.

Good for them. Can they sustain? Hell even Kugler took the Miners to a bowl game... NMSU has stepped up, but i've seen so many of their fans on their high horse. NMSU is far from being anything other than the Aggie nobody pays much attention to. It was a nice story this past season, the largest bowl drought in FBS. Ok, good, but NMSU has many problems. They need a conference sooner or later. If not for state funding, they wouldn't even be a program. UTEP on the other hand has great potential.

1. City with major airport
2. Population greater than 500k
3. Larger stadium
4. Bigger budget
5. Conference affiliation.
6.Better support from community
7. Not in New Mexico.
8 Has shown the potential to fill the Sunbowl/DHC, while NMSU bb even while winning does not.

My main point is that despite winning a bowl game and finishing above .500 it did very little for them in improving their overall perception. When a recruit chooses your winless rival over you there is some deep soul searching needed in less cruces.

There is more to recruiting than wins and losses. Choosing a school is about the right fit. Maybe NMSU wasn't a good fit. Either way, Miners landed him.
