Congratulations. Mission accomplished. You kept the all-time hits leader out of the Baseball Hall of Fame while he was alive. Let’s hope they’ll have the sense to posthumously induct him as early as next year.

He was royalty without the formal title. That's "old news" that everyone knows about.

It like rock pioneers Iron Maiden being snubbed by HOF constantly. They stated publicly they don't want to be inducted, their legend stands alone.

Sad.

I met him back in 2001 when he visited El Paso for the Sports Expo. He was very nice and I had a nice conversation with him.

Pete knew this and proceeded to bet on baseball anyway...AS A MANAGER. Keep him out (Shoeless Joe Jackson should get in first).

Pete Rose bet on his team to win. Shoeless Joe accepted a bribe to intentionally lose.

I'm old school. Regardless of whether Pete bet on his team to win or not is NOT the point. The rules clearly state no betting. He broke the rules. Period.

Don't get me wrong, he was the greatest hitter of all time. But still...

Agreed. I don't think Shoeless Joe or Pete should be in.

Neither will ever be reinstated by MLB. Since the Hall is independent of the league their only chance would be for the Hall to change its policy.

Pete played and managed more games than anyone else and the rule and punishment are clearly posted in every clubhouse at every level so no one can say he didn't know what he was risking.
