Fans can purchase a $40 “Seats for Soldiers” package, which pays for four tickets that will be provided to military members and their families.

Not much of a promotion to me... "Give us $40 so someone else and their family can go to the game." Meantime you pay regular price if you want to come yourself...

Additionally, every ticket purchased will be matched by UTEP Athletics.

I understand the gesture to the military community, and this was probably planned before the season, but asking people to give their money away isn't an enticement for someone to go to the game.

At least make the 4 for 40 price available to those who donate. Or a buy one, get one free if you bring a soldier or veteran.

I wouldn't count on any other ticket promos for this game if UTEP is spending money/giving away seats to 'match' donations. Hopefully the soldiers actually show up... and root for the Miners.

Soldiers can afford tickets. I dont understand the charity. But we have thousands of Families that would actually want to go to a game but can't. Soldiers would go to a game, maybe stay a half.

I have 3 boys and for years I've told them 'bring one of your friends.'

I was in the military, my dad was stationed at Fort Bliss for 12 of his 24 years in the Army. I get that Fort Bliss seems like an untapped market with tremendous potential. Its not.

The Diablos got it right in the 80's. Put tickets in every kids backpack and turn them into baseball fans. Eventually, the investment will create a baseball culture.

Maybe UTEP should just have a Military Promotion where the annual Military Night, you just say any soldier and their families that shows up in uniform can sit in anywhere in Section 1.

Right. A lot of the soldiers are from out of town and are in the 20s or 30s. Some are from Alabama, Florida, California, and other states. Why would they give a f about UTEP? Imagine you’re stationed in another city and UTEP is playing on TV, are you going to attend the local college’s featuring two teams you don’t give a f about? No.

I've always said that UTEP should have taken a page out of the old Diablos marketing. That organization felt the pulse of El Paso and they made the city fall in love with that team. UTEP always felt to me like their attitude was "Support us because we are all you got". Man I miss Jim Paul, I wish he could have been our AD rather than Stull.

Lots of young men in the service, stationed far away from, will want to get off base and enjoy a sporting event. While I was in th army many years ago (we rode horses in those days) I attened a couple of Indiana games, a SJSU game and a few JC games in Oklahoma. It's a pretty decent promotion. But the overly critical attitude here towards anything UTEP prevails.

What year was that?

I personally know a few soldiers stationed in Ft Bliss that made the Locomotive their home team. One of them is now stationed in Ft Hood and still keeps up with the team. We went to the Locomotive vs Bold game a few weeks ago in Austin.

If UTEP could market it correctly it could turn into a nice supply of visitors for the Sun Bowl.

So for RICE and probably BCU it's $48. That means you get a ticket, a popcorn, a drink, and a hot dog for $12 a person. And you still complain about ticket prices? Lol.

Please post when I complained about this promotion.

They’ve promoted it “so well”, you didn’t even know about it. BCU was the same price as UTSA. $68

And that’s for 4 people. What if I you only go with 1 person to the game? Only a good deal if you’re going with 3 other people and not 4, 5, or 6 more.

Yea well I'm not really looking for deals.

Because it’s something to do. There are always soldiers from Fort Bliss at the games who have no ties to UTEP nor El Paso

Sure, you get a few randoms here and there. Every time UTEP brings in a new coach or AD, they talk about Juarez and Ft Bliss and getting fans from there. Hasn’t happened in large numbers, and never will.

Hope they do a flash sale on Friday. Gets tickets moving… still look like a good amount left, and I wonder if the soldiers show? Should easily be a solid crowd
