EL PASO, TEXAS – This Saturday’s UTEP football game versus Southern Miss has been postponed after the Golden Eagle football team experienced an increase in COVID-19 cases.

The institutions, along with Conference USA, will work together to reschedule the contest for later this season.

“While we are disappointed that we won’t be able to play this weekend, the health and safety of everyone involved is always the top priority,” UTEP Director of Athletics Jim Senter said. “We wish everyone at Southern Miss a quick recovery and hope to reschedule this game for later in the season in consultation with Conference USA.”

“We are concerned about the Southern Miss team and hope they get healthy and return to play soon,” UTEP coach Dana Dimel said. “We were excited to play our first home game in a month. We’ll set our sights on next week’s game at Charlotte and trying to get a good road victory for our football team.”

All tickets for the originally scheduled Oct. 17matchup will be valid for the rescheduled game date. If you have any questions, please call the Eisenberg Family Ticket Office at (915) 747-UTEP or email tickets@utep.edu.

The Miners and Charlotte will meet on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Jerry Richardson Stadium. Kickoff time has been moved to noon Eastern/10 a.m. Mountain.

I’m bummed out with the postponement of tomorrow’s game. Although we came up short last week, the Miners have played well the last few weeks. The Miners need to continue building confidence and this is a very beatable opponent. I was hoping to see the Miners play a solid game against USM. I understand the health concerns, but hope this doesn’t affect the team’s momentum.

Only year in the last ten that UTEP looked to have a tiny bit of potential and WAM! Can't catch a break. What next Sun Bowl overrun by locust? The football gods must really hate us.
Oh but the Miners and the coaching staff have caught a break. Because of COVID the schedule changed and they were able to get the wins that were otherwise likely never to happen. Its unfortunate and bad timing the game was postponed, but the Miners are benefiting overall.

Makeup game would have to be in December, as UTEP does not have a bye for the rest of the season. Yet, something tells me that this will not be the last game to have to be rescheduled.

CUSA championship is Dec 18th, so if we need to make up a couple of games, our last game is Nov 28th (which may not happen regardless as it is Rice).

EL PASO, Texas – UTEP’s rescheduled home football game versus Southern Miss has been moved up one day and will be played on Friday, Dec. 4 in El Paso to avoid potential scheduling conflicts with basketball.

The Miners and Golden Eagles will kick off at 6 p.m. MT on Dec. 4 in a game that will be streamed on ESPN Networks. UTEP and Southern Miss were originally scheduled to face off on Oct. 17 before the game was postponed due to COVID-related issues. On Wednesday, it was announced that the game was rescheduled for Dec. 5.

The next week, UTEP will wrap up regular-season play as the Miners host North Texas on Saturday, Dec. 12. UTEP and North Texas were set to face off on Oct. 31 in El Paso before that game was also postponed.

Additional protocols and information regarding both West Division home games will be announced at a later date.

Terrible decision by UTEP. I'm not suprised but disappointed with continued self inflicted wounds UTEP athletics suffers from.
