Well, it’s just a “verbal” but what do you all think? Shared roles at qb but “drew interest” from major programs. Big qb. Mike Price landed a three star 6’5” qb from California (Hemet, CA?) his second year going head to head with one or two PAC XII schools but after a year he converted to the D Line. He graduates in December so he can be here in the spring IF he sticks with UTEP(his NCAA Bio).

Cade McConnell was a top performing Cali qb. He his tall but not 6’6” tall. Had a huge HS all star game his senior year. Some one here wanted Dimel to after upper tier qb’s. Well, he did.

You're referring to Brandis Dew. He was offered by USC to play DE. He had alot of power offers to play DE (FSU and UCLA among others). He wanted to play qb that's why he signed with UTEP. We were one of the few schools to offer him ad qb. He was a four star DE prospect and a 2 star qb prospect. He got here and a year and a half in it was evident he wasn't a D1 qb. He switched to DE before his Sophmore season, but sustained a career ending neck injury 2 or three practices into camp. Never got to see him at his best position. It did make news at the time because we got a kid the best program in the nation at that time had offered. It was kinda of misleading because he only came here to play qb.

Thank you. I couldn’t remember the story.

I would agree, however, you sign a juco QB when your starter has 2 years left? Logic please?
Depth. At anytime a d1 football team needs at least five qbs on the roster. Two of those qbs are going to be " camp arms". It's bullshit there has been no competition at qb. They still need alot of depth at qb. At least one veteran who can step in and play if Harison is injured. At least one or two Freshman they see ws the future who can develop. Then you need a couple of "camp arms". Guys that are good in the qb room. They will be the guys throwing with young recievers who need more reps. Playing scout team qb. Picking up the slack in spring or summer if one of the top three guys has some kind of surgery which happens almost every year.

Why waist a schollie on a camp arm??

Tell me oh wise one.....why would ANY juco QB come here to play backup? To HARDISSON??? Hardison is wearing Luke's number. He will NOT be benched period. So, why get a juco QB?

It would make a buttload of sense to bring in a high school kid to groom. Maybe a backup transfer.....this makes no sense...

It makes no sense that a qb with zero other offers would take the only offer on the table.

Because they know their role and want to play D-1 football. It's more important than it sounds. The guy needs to be very smart. Someone who can watch film with the starter and breakdown defenses and quarterback mechanics. They need to be able to take the young qbs under their wings and be a sounding board for the starter. The sideline during a game is chaos. The camp arm can point out things to the qb like a coach. They can point out things like letting them know their check down is open or that they're misreading coverages. Alot of times in the heat of the movement qbs are alot more receptive to input from a teammate than a coach. The camp arms guys are glue guys. They're always the most liked guys on teams and bring guys together. There are characteristics coaches look for "camp arms". These kids know their role and almost act defacto coach. Last year Bravo played this role. He knew he wasn't getting on the field. He was Hardison's guy on the sidelines and a mentor to the younger guys. They usually also help signal in plays. Every successful program has good "camp arms". Alot of times they are using the experience to springboard into a coaching career.

If Hardison gets hurt and you don't have confidence in the qb's you already have maybe you bring in an alternative.

Same reason basketball programs give a scholie to that one kid who will never see live action with a few precious minutes left and down by a few points; however, they are extremely valuable during practice because they challenge the starters (they are grateful or content just playing D1 ball).
