They have a football team. I wonder which conference they'll join for football, since the WAC doesn't sponsor that sport.

They'll be FCS; there are some FCS football-only conferences I imagine they'd hope to join. They'll start as an FCS independent.

The point regarding number of BB playing colleges in Utah is that the states you mentioned have population densities outnumbering Utah by far margins. Utah, not so much. Just a wild guess.
