Well, they have Trader Joe’s and REI.

If you’re into thrifting, check out Buffalo Exchange near campus.

Good restaurants/bars on Central Ave. near campus.

Casino.

The science museum there is pretty cool actually. The Sandia tramway is pretty nice too (as long as you don't mind being a 1000ft up!)

Hotel Parq Central is nice and has a rooftop bar.

Love REI

As long as you can stay away from the Zombies, there are a few things to do.

One of my favorite writers went to UNM — Edward Abbey. His “Desert Solitaire” is a masterpiece, and funny.
Abbey's Road, Fools Progress, Monkey Wrench Gang, Fire on the Mountain, Hayduke Lives, The Brave Cowboy......and others, read them all! Great writer and has vision to what the west would become is straight on.

Great recommendation Uni! Just got into Larry McMurty after his death and feel like Abbey is just the natural progression in this southwest genre.

I stayed in some UNM dorms for two weeks. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend anything nearby campus. Away from campus, the cable car up the mountain looked okay, but the wait is usually over an hour.

Depends on when you go. Last time I went, there was no wait.

So basically Albuquerque is place you go to just because you have to?? Not a place to for vacation or to have fun?? Would Albuquerque be considered a college town??

You live in El Paso and probably huffed paint since you were 13. The same thing you’re saying is what most people say about El Paso.

I asked for ideas of things to do and basically everyone said there is nothing to do. To just go to Sante Fe.

There is more to do in El Paso than there is to do in Albuquerque.

There are a lot of good breweries to check out around ABQ, in fact there are 40+ in and around town. The few I'd recommend are: La Cumbre Brewing, Tractor Brewing, Bosque Brewing, and Boxing Bear Brewing. In the evening there is an attraction called the River of Lights, which is a Christmas Light show. Old Town Albuquerque has some nice shops. Beyond that you could have the authentic Albuquerque experience of getting your car stolen!
