UTEP in Top 25....

There is a thread on this poll on the realignment site. An Iowa poster had this to say:

"Iowa was actually pretty awful in the 60's and 70's, going 20 straight seasons without a winning season. Of course Iowa's schedules were a lot tougher back then. No FCS teams. No MAC teams. Lots of Pac-8 teams. Many Iowa teams in the 60's and 70's could easily had a winning season with today's schedules.

When Hayden Fry finally turned Iowa around in 1981, he still had to do it with a non-conference schedule at that time of Nebraska, UCLA and Iowa State in a 11-game season. Hayden finally said this is crazy, he starting replacing the UCLA's with the UTEP's and NIU's on future schedules.

Hayden's assistant Bill Snyder learned this lesson well, and when Snyder moved on to be the head coach at KSU, he started loading up his non-conference schedule with cupcakes, a model that unfortunately the rest of the BCS teams ended up copying, with a few exceptions. "
