Western New Mexico

I'd rather watch high school football than to see Floyd's outdated and stale post touch offense struggle with mighty WMU. Wake me up when the Puerto Rico Tourney starts.... Anyone else having a hard time getting excited for this season?

I’m pretending to be excited hoping I become excited.

Im only going because I have season tickets and I have to get my $$$ worth. But the positive is these exhibition games against inferior teams actually turn into close games now with Floyd as coach, so tonight will be a hell of a game.

Yep

Unihorn go to bed you have to get up early to cut Floyd's grass in the morning. Maybe he'll dip into his multi-multi million dollar bank account and tip you an extra 10 dollars so you can take your boy for some ice cream.
You know how stupid you sound?

The team did start a little flat (except Frazier) but shot well in the second half and won by 48 points. WNM had zero inside game. Frazier, Wade, Omega and Osborne make a pretty good guard lineup. Willms and Thomas will be just fine. They need to rebound better. Smith needs to stop fouling. Gilyard looks confident and is pesky on defense. He needs to take care of the ball better. Flaggert will be coming off the bench and Touchet played off the ball. Mcgee may want to redshirt because I don't think he is going to play much. Miners will go 10 deep. They will miss Jones but we may also see a lot of "4 guard lineups".

Tonight shooting percentages were about 50/75/40 I think.

I say the starting lineup next week is : Osborne, Omega, Frazier, PT and Willms. Gilyard, Wade, Smith and Flaggert will see plenty of playing time.

Some people are gonna whine and complain about something no matter what the circumstances. We were all very upset after Sul Ross; me included. I said if we could manhandle this inferior Western New Mexico squad by a minimum of 25, there would be renewed hope for a nice season. Well 48 is 23 more than 25, so they met that goal.
What really concerns me is fouls on our inside guys... Willms, Thomas and OMG Smith. Five fouls in five minutes! Unbelievable. The coaches have to fix this quick. These were runts they were up against these two exhibition games.
Omega Harris! The mystery continues. Only four shots. The proceeding games in Costa Rica and Sul Ross were similar with five or less shots. Again I wonder if this is by design.
Looks like Frazier found some signs of his old self tonight.

After Sul Ross I was worried.

Tonight I left the Don feeling optimistic! I like our guard play. Isiah Osborne showed explosiveness and speed on the break away dunk.

It was also great seeing Frazier and Wade knock down three point shots.

I’ll cut his grass, while you’re inside sucking him off.

Wade is going to be outstanding down the line, and has all conference potential. He needs to tighten up his ball handling, and get better on the defensive end, but he may have as high a ceiling as anyone on the team. I think this aligns with what some mentioned prior to the start of the season, so it is nice when the early intel happens to match. I think Smith has some nice potential, especially on the offensive end; he needs to figure out the other end though.

I think we looked good overall. We sure do have a lot of talent and they seemed more loose and having fun. Although the defense was better, it needs to tighten up. We can't be giving up so many open looks from the perimeter. The communication between the guards is great, no matter which ones are in there.
After this game, I see Gilyard coming off the bench. He is our future started at PG, but he makes a ton of mistakes. I would have to agree with Kobe redshirting, although I like his game. He makes some crazy ass passes that go right through his teammates hands because they just aren't ready.

Turn on the lights Friday. It's go time....

Also defending the 3 point line is again a big concern. Other than that and that is a big issue I love the talent.
I thought the same, but actually the miners have have a good 3-point defensive percentage historically under Floyd. They pack in their defense to shut down the paint. UTEP allows a high number of 3 point shots. Certainly if the other team is hitting 3s then we are in trouble and need to adjust, but generally that is not the case.

For example: last year UTEP was #1 in CUSA in defensive field goal percentage AND 3-point field goal percentage (.299). ODU (who consider themselves the 'top defense') were #2/#7 respectively.

I feel like nobody is talking about trey wade. This freshman is putting up some crazy numbers already. Wonder what the ceiling is gonna be for him. Also, hope he sticks around for more than a year...
He looks like a veteran out there. He also seems to get taller every time I see him. He's a real throwback kind of old-school player. can pretty much do it all.
