Will UTEP play Texas Tech between 8/29 and 9/5? Whether there’s fans there or not, is this game being played between these two Saturdays?

We’re about a month away and decisions will have to be made soon. How are you feeling about the game being played?

This latest info from Big 12 commish Bowlsby indicates that UTEP's games vs Big 12 opponents Texas Tech and Texas may be in jeopardy.

Per Commish @BobBowlsby, Big 12 is considering a conference-only slate that starts Week 0 and ends December 12 (10-11 games; 16 wks).

Preference is still 12 games as scheduled, though Board of Directors not expected to make a decision until at least next Monday.

Add to that the NM Gov is telling NM schools they should not play FB this season and you could have 3 UTEP games cancelled soon. If CUSA loses it's OOC games, they could add 2 more conference games for a 10 game season if there is a season at all.

Beginning to look like a shortened FB season in the spring is a real possibility.

UTEP in a “best case scenario”, will play 9 games. NMSU then 8 CUSA games. It makes no sense for CUSA to play more than 8 games. Unlike the B12, B10, and others, they don’t have any reasons to play in empty stadiums. The CUSA TV deal doesn’t pay jack, so extra games isn’t happening.

I could see a scenario where we only play our six division games. Best record from each division advances to the cusa championship.

If the Big 12 adopts the ACC model, Texas would play UTEP rather than USF.

I voted no, unfortunately. We're hearing Big12 teams will only have one non-con game, but it's not a done deal yet. With the very recent announcement out of the sec, it looks like your trip to Austin should still happen...

Texas and other Power 5 schools will play the team with the highest buyout. If UTEP's buyout is lower than South Florida's, Texas will buy them out.
Schools will be looking to minimize costs with no revenue from tickets.

Playing another game versus a conference opponent is cheaper than playing UTEP or USF.

No question. I was just saying if they are allowed to play conference plus one, then it will be the cheaper one.

The B12 and Sun Belt are the only conferences that don’t have more than 10 members, so if the Big 12 wants to play 10, they will have to double, if not then they may play UTEP. But that would have effects on their rankings, so they may try to schedule BYU instead.

I personally don’t think UTEP will play them.

Gee people making $30,000 are getting paycuts? But we’re led to believe that UTEP is in “good financial shape”, but Tech is not?

What’s up with people making $30,000 a year at Texas Tech? We’ve been told on this board that everyone makes $80,000???

Unlike UTEP, TT actually makes a boatload of money from ticket sales and game day concessions/parking. They’re expecting to miss out on about 25 million dollars.

How much money will UTEP lose out on for only selling 9k $12 tickets instead of the normal 14-15k? It’s no where close to a 1/4 of 25 million.

During this Pandemic UTEP has done many good things. 1. We’re playing football 2. We built an impromptu ooc schedule that sets us up with winnable games 3. We haven’t cut any sports 4. We haven’t cut any jobs or salaries.

That’s very commendable.
