I would take Price's son over dana dimel. The guy almost killed UH's program. He almost uab'd their program. They considered dropping football as a result of Dimels demolition job of the program. Horrific hire. Senter should be fired and I'm not joking. Complete f****** incompetence. A 10 yr old could have made a better hire.

You have stated this for over a year but Senter said they made money last year for football. Enron book keeping? Perhaps. But those books are certified by the president/UTEP. Senter does not put his own signature on it.

There needs to be a comparison and analysis. Compare to other programs and see where Senter is coming from and compare it to today's FBS standards. Hell, compare it La Tech. They have low attendance every year (but put a competitive product every year).

Exactly. Revenue isn't profit. Numbers look a lot different when you subtract debt from revenue.

Student Services Fee $15.50 per credit hour, with a maximum of $186.00 (12 credit hours) A compulsory fee to fund student-related services such as intramural activities; student government, disabled student organizations, career services, cheerleaders, student publications, health services, intercollegiate athletics and others.

Is this supposed to be the 'Student Fee' that generated 3,548,507.98? If so then that is BS because we dont know what portion goes to intercollegiate athletics (if any). UTEP needs a dedicated student athletic fee #1.

And why do we need a dedicated student athletic fee? Because the contributions are weak. 609k? Damn. How much of that is just season ticket holder contributions? How much of it is donations?

Also if UTEP is budgeting 3.5 million of it's own money to athletics, then how are athletics making money? Sounds like the University is just displacing money.

The 3,505,854.50 is just for football (not the entire athletic dept). I didn't list everything else since it's on that page. In total it's 9,957,259.11

So even worse then I guess..
That circular firing argument of "we need to support $$$ win or lose" vs "why do i need to put $$ in a bad product" is evidenced in the numbers.

The numbers don't look nice when you have nothing coming in to invest or build on infrastructure wise, coaching pay, etc.

As far as "taxing" the students with a student fee or making it higher, how is that fair when we should have enough of an alumni base to make a substantial reach out for help? Unfortunate, most don't have that emotional attachment to the university (or to athletics) like other places that have (or those on this board)

Why should the alumni give to UTEP? UTEP has given nothing to anyone. Except losing football and basketball programs. They fact they get 15/4K for games tells you a lot about the fans of El Paso. They are pretty good and have done their fair share of supporting.

it’s time for UTEP to give the city winning teams; not sucking more out of the current students and alumni. You wouldn’t keep loaning money to your bum ass uncle if he never repaid you. UTEP is the same. Take and take, but rarely any give.

It really isn’t about what UTEP athletics have done for the alumni. It’s what having a degree from UTEP has done to improve their quality of life.

To give back hopefully to their university if they can, from athletics to a donation to the college of liberal arts when something is sent in the mail.

Always neat to see when people use that JFK quote in a different format....

What the heck does that mean. You should take pride from ever you graduate from.

Corona talked about the quality of life you get from having a UTEP degree. A degree from any other college will get you the same. Plus, UTEP did nobody any favors, as the majority of students pay their own way. So what Corona is saying is that you should give thanks to UTEP for giving you the opportunity to pay $20,000 for a degree. Okay....

What if you’re a broke kid from El Paso that can’t afford room and board at another other Texas university? Or what if you’re not smart enough to get admitted into another university? Yes you should be thankful that a university close to home accepted you and gave you the opportunity to invest in yourself.

There are other universities and colleges that accept the same students as you noted above. UTEP is not special in that regard. EPCC will accept them and for less than half the cost. Again, paying a college for your education is no “privilege” and once you’re done, it’s up to you to donate money. There is nothing special about it.

It’s like paying 10k to a roofer to replace your roof and then giving him a donation a few years later because he did an acceptable job. The roofer took your money, he didn’t do you any favors.

For a school with such poor sports performances, UTEP is lucky they get any donations.

Then you gotta do what you gotta do...that's life. Everything can't be a hand out.

Yes sir.

Who wants to bet me that Hawkins and Efe ends up at New Mexico state. We have become their farm team
Gilyard isn't doing any better than he did here statistically, yet his team is winning.

I wouldn't take your bet though. Wouldn't suprise me at all, but if it happens again Terry should be fired.

If we had continued on our 8-1 start, nobody would care about it. It's a Terry issue, not a Gilyard issue. It obviously wouldn't have mattered.
I'm still on the "Let Lathon be Lathon" wagon because he has shown what he can do against almost any team but Terry has the brakes on him.

But this season is basically toast.

How does terry have the brakes on lathon? Lathon doesn’t have elite speed... can’t shoot from outside, and doesn’t finish particularly well...

he is good at passing and rebounding...

He a fairly good slasher and mid range. His from the arc has gotten ugly this year.
