Miners have Really improved their PR campaign

The solution to that is get a better product on the court and get opponents that are attractive to the fans.
Unless UTEP goes on a “Gonzaga” type run or has tremendous luck, that’s not happening. Even when Floyd was here, UTEP was lucky to get 8,000 for non-conference games. Which is still “only” 2/3 full. They still scheduled bottom D1 games then.

There’s really no difference to the majority of fans between UAPB and USAO. I know the difference and you know the difference, but most people just see - shit team. It also costs about $25k more to bring UAPB than it does USAO. So its more advantageous for UTEP to play these D3 teams.

Unless UTEP is going to sign home and homes with MAC, MVC, and others, the schedule will remain shitty. Power teams won’t come here, especially since UTEP is mediocre. I just don’t see them getting better opponents, unless a miracle happens.

OT: Cowboys

60 million per year for a so-so quarterback. not to mention something like 34 million per year for a decent wide receiver. neither of which will get the cowgirls a super bowl win without tons more help.
I still think Dak is mental. He's playing scared and holds the ball too long despite refusing to run anymore. His accuracy has fallen off and the O-line is not helping. Having an anemic run game and decimated D is compounding the issue 10x. Dak is only playing decent when playing with a big lead or when playing from way behind.

If Utep loses to Kennesaw State...

Pickles didn't get a chance to pass much, but when Scotty finally relented out of necessity, what i saw did not look good. Locklear has not played well at all this season, but based on the very small sample size I've seen from Pickles, Pickles is the better runner, Locklear is the better passer (which is sad). I do think that Locklear gives us a better chance to win, which isn't saying much. Hopefully Pickles comes out and looks spectacular on Saturday and makes me eat my words, but I'm not holding my breath.
Pickles family went on Twitter/X after last week's game stating that's all he did in high school which explains his recruitment for CS RPO.

However, you have to be able to throw a decent contolled ball at the FBS level. I say controlled because we saw two opposite ends of the spectrum under Dimel with Locksley and Hardison. One was often off target and the other threw a 100 mph fast ball on a dink and dunk pass.

A (very) slight defense of our last two ADs

What do you think now??
For the basketball hire I was all for either Golding or Tang, so I don't fault him for the Golding hire. But I think that he has given Golding too long a leash, I would have fired him after having a losing record against Div 1 competition last year. Golding has this season to prove me wrong, hopefully he does so. If Golding doesn't have an outstanding season this year he needs to get the axe.

I knew nothing of Walden coming in, but things did seem positive upon his hire. On paper he appears to be a good recruiter (the proof will be how well his recruits play on the field). So far I am very unimpressed with his offense and play calling. It is too early, in my opinion, to call for his head, but if things don't improve significantly each year he definitely shouldn't make it past year 3. Hopefully Walden proves that Senter made the right hire, but so far things don't look good.

One last, very important note: a key job of an AD is fundraising. From everything that I've heard Senter has done a terrible job at this. That is another reason to fire him and replace him with someone more competent.

Poll: What Should Senter do About Golding?

I realize that the ultimate goal is for a school like us is to make the NCAA Tournament, and the only way to do that in a conference like ours, unless you have a season like FAU did a couple of years ago, is to win the conference tournament. That said, the only reason that conference tournaments exist is a cash and recognition grab. Otherwise it makes no sense that a conference champion is determined by which team gets lucky over a three or four game stretch rather than who has the best record after playing everyone home and away all conference season. Winning the conference tournament may be more important, but winning the regular season title is more impressive. Should Golding win the regular season title he certainly deserves to stay, and a case can be made if he finishes in the top two or three. Finishing with another losing record record against Div 1 competition again should earn him a ticket on the first bus out of El Paso, provided he doesn't pull off some miracle in the tournament.
