German Air Force Defense Center leaves Fort Bliss, relocates to Germany

The German Air Force Defense Center at Fort Bliss is leaving after almost 66 years and relocating back to Germany. The GAFADC will be deactivated on June 30. In the future, German Air Defense personnel will be trained at the new Air Defense Training Center in Husum, Germany. Caption...

Wow! The GAFADs used to field one helluva men’s team in EP’s men’s soccer league back in the late 80s and early 90s.

They were grown ass men pushing us kids around like rag dolls. Still managed to beat ‘em a couple times out of the 8 or 10 we went up against them.

I'm honestly surprised that they were still at Bliss. When the Air Defense Artillery School was moved from Bliss to Sill the size of the German presence on Bliss was greatly reduced, and, very sadly, the German Club was shut down. No more schnitzel on post for lunch. It's sad that the German Air Defense Center is now completely shuttered.
