A few thoughts and questions

"Someone" on another board has been posting how excited El Pasoans are with Price being back and how big of a difference it has made already. He has even so far as to say this is Eric's audition without even being there. Just so you guys understand my total frustration when Price was announced as interim, the even mention of his sons makes my skin crawl. Many of you have argued this is just a fill in roll, but obviously I am not totally nuts. (mostly, not totally)

As for El Paso being elated and all, only 1300 more fans showed up for WKU than went to Rice. You remember Rice? The game we thought we had a good chance winning going in? So, after the wheels fall off the following few games, our coach resigns, and Price comes back, El Paso is excited by 1300 more fans showing up? Oh and tickets were $10 !!

While Price is a good guy, his coaching is trash. He never had 3 winning seasons in a row.....ever. He had 7 losing seasons in a row HERE. He was losing all the time, and fewer people were showing up to watch. Hence he was ushered out. He made ZERO difference being there last Saturday. WKU has been having some trouble of their own. I thought they would fixed that against UTEP, but I was wrong. The UTEP defense played awesome, for us anyway...lol

Overall, we did play our best game of the year. It was bound to happen. We almost had it. I just don't see the any excitement because Price is fixing things. Do you? Folks I talk to are in the same mindset as before with the exception that they are hopeful with a new coach not named Price coming in.
Another Saturday looms with us being big dogs. Hopefully the boys can exceed expectations. No matter the result, the next home game still won't draw more than 22,000. That's no excitement IMHO....

My guess is less than 15,000 but we will never know for sure. During CMP worst season of 3-9 he averaged 29,374 as compared to Kugler’s seven win season when he averaged 28,377. Win, lose, or lose CMP could get the fans in the stands. UTEP under Kugler was currently on pace to have one of its lowest season averages in modern history.

Which UTEP coach has produced three winning seasons in a row? I know for certain it hasn’t happened in my lifetime. You might not want to see the difference between the RICE game and WKU game by I did. The fans were cheering loudly on third downs, chanting UTEP with pride at the half, and overall having a good time. A loss is loss but I much rather be within striking distance in the 4th quarter than losing by 3-4 possessions.

I’m 99% certain that if Mason or Natkin had been promoted to Interim Head Coach we would have made WKU look like the back to back conference champions they are and we would have looked like the last place team we are.

The way I see it some people will always look for the negative. We wanted a new AD that happened. We wanted Kugler to resign that also happened. As far as some stranger on the internet getting excited about Eric becoming the next HC that’s all on you if you choose to believe it and get upset over it. Until someone from the university makes an official announcement as to who the next AD will be and who the short list of coaches is I’ll dismiss everything else as opinions and rumors.

In the meantime all we can do is support our team if we choose to. Some do it by attending games, other by listening on tune in, and some like myself by watching through CUSAtv.

That's why I posted a previous thread on assistants. Love them or hate them, Kug and Price did bring in some good assistants who were immediately poached adding to breakdowns in consistency and not so good assistants filled in. UTEP draws up loaded contracts for the head coach. Assistants are a different story.

Yea I read that. I thought it was good. We have sound something the UAB game didn’t have. We have a scoreboard on the screen something RICE doesn’t. Our scoreboard actually shows the time and who the teams are. Some scoreboards I’ve seen don’t have the time and just say home and away. We have replays something ODU doesn’t. Most importantly we actually have a video feed. The USM game coming up only has audio. The camera angles are good. The stream is in HD with no buffering. Once basketball season ends cancel your subscription until next September. For about $70 a year I’m able to watch almost every UTEP football and basketball game. And any other conference game I wish. That’s a steal!

They complained because Jaime Esparza talked for about 5-10 minutes about the importance of not drinking and driving. Excuse us for doing a public service of educating our citizens. If you don’t want to hear the opposing team commentators then simply sync the video to your local radio feed. I do that all the time.

@UTEPfan1966: Good grief, man, I know there are still some of you Mike Price haters lurking out there, but at least get your facts straight. Like, Mike Price's WORST attendance season was better than Kugler's BEST season. Think about that...

And nobody questions the complete coincidence of UTEP beating WKU everywhere but on the scoreboard with Price while going 0-5 under Kugler, losing by about an average score of 46-8. Pure coincidence, right?

And UTEP attendance went UP for WKU over Rice? After blowouts the prior four games? Again, sheer coincidence, I'm sure...

How 'bout maybe giving a little credit where it's due rather than making a miserable season even more miserable.

And credit to the UTEP players for really digging down and playing football last Saturday, regardless of who is the HC...

Before anyone gets all in love with Price again, remember we all wanted Price gone because we had 7 straight losing seasons. Attendance was falling fast because we were losing. Those are simple facts, brother.
I am not making it up that we have lost for a billion years. I was there for a lot of them. I was a season ticket holder for around 25 years. Price is the reason I left. He and Stull permitted continued losing. I swore off attending games until he was finally gone. Then I had my only child when I was 48 so I couldn't go just yet. Price and Stull screwed up my love of home games because he kept losing and wanted to keep his family in his loop. To even suggest another Price be at the helm is a slap in the face. Take your shots at me, I really don't care. I KNOW I am not the only one as seen by the lack of attendance last Saturday.

Attendance was going down when Price was in charge. People were fed up with HIS losing and empty promises. Yep, it's even much much worse with Kulger because his version sucks even more. Until we change the direction, get new blood, the fans are NOT coming back.

The side show that is Mike Price will not help us at all. He is a gimmick to try to make money, which is failing based of last Saturday.

Call me negative all you want homie, but I am more the majority than the folks on here with blinders. I LOVE my Miners. I have so many orange shirts (HATE the blue crap), UTEP caps, banners, Don Haskins signed posters, and the expensive season tickets to hoops. (come visit me in row 2) I will tell you I think the defense played one hell of a game and that's because of the kids and Mason, NOT Price. Our offense still sucks ass. PERIOD.

I am anti Price....I am afraid he is trying to get his son a job. I think a couple posters on 2 boards have a hard on for Price. If he and his sons are gone for good after the last game, I will THEN thank him for helping out. Until then, I don't trust the car salesman.

UTEP broadcast is garbage and has been for a long time... They don't even put which down it is, they do have the quarter listed twice... NMSU, now they have a solid production.

Hell, 4 or 5 beers might not even give you guys enough time (lol). I've enjoyed chatting with both you guys in person. Both good dudes.

Price is short term. Might as well make the most of an already disaster of a season. At least half the board perked up when Price was announced as interim.

New blood is on the way in. Hopefully we are wise in who we bring in...both in terms of AD and head fb coach. Lord knows we need something good around here.

Of course I have issues. I AM a Miner fan! I have been since the early 70s. You, brotha? (I use kids slang sometimes cuz like, I hang around a LOT of young people in my bizz. I apologize for not being quite as mature as you. I have reverted back to my youth in my own mind. ) Anywho, I have become pessimistic about most things dealing with UTEP athletics. I yell for coaches heads early and often. I want to see excellence by my Miners. I don't want us going backwards. I want us to go forward. (El Paso as a city does the same backwards crap and that drives me nuts too)

Usually I would say the D.A. announcement was long, however, El Paso is right up there leading in DUI. Yes, right up there with Dallas/Ft Worth and Houston/Galveston. El Chuco loooooovvvvvveeeesss their beer and is tops in sales in the state (at times).
