UTEP athletic site: Coach Bartosh at UTEP; " The Miners won at 14th-ranked Arizona State, 31-27, on Nov. 2, 1974. it is UTEP's only road victory over a team ranked in the AP Top 25 poll."

"When the U.T. El Paso Miners returned to El Paso at 2:30 a.m.. Sunday to be greeted by a crowd of 300 fans, a lady ran up to coach-Gil Bartosh, kissed Mm and handed him a bottle of champagne. Bartosh tried to give the present back but the lady was gone and there be was walking down the International Airport concourse with a bottle of champagne in his hands. The Iliners 31-27 victory over Arizona State deserved a champagne party, all right, but the players celebrated in their dressing room with a soft drink party."
