Doc recruited well here and won 48 games in two seasons and went to the Big Dance in his 1st year.Originally posted by Minerforlife:
The man cant coach and he may be the worst recruiter in the country.

Other than Stefon Jackson his recruiting was not very good at all. He did go to the NCAA with a loaded team that BCG left him. Doc was good at X and O stuff. Not a very good recruiter at all.
Didn't he recruit Omar Thomas as well?Originally posted by Lucaminer:

You forgot to mention his second class was really good.Originally posted by Lucaminer:
Omar Thomas was part of the class that came in with the BCG hire(Fili, Thomas and Jason Williams). Doc did have the Philadelphia connection but was unable to use it to his advantage here or at Nebraska. Look at his first class coming off of two straight NCAA appearances.... Pretty bad.
I am not sure what you are going to this. Wouldn't you rather have a coach that is better at coaching than recruiting? Doc took UTEP to the Big Dance in his 1st year and went to the NIT in his 2nd year.Originally posted by Lucaminer:
I am not making this a Floyd vs Sadler thing. doc's second class? Who were the good players? Look at the team Barbee took over. Very little talent. Doc can coach. He can't recruit.

I agree. I wouldn't be surprised if Southern Miss wins at least 20 games this year and/or the year after.Originally posted by utep2step:
Not that I feel for Sadler after he left UTEP with nothing, but his schtick is JUCO recruiting in the Bible Belt. He was hired with really no time to recruit and all of USM best players gone. He will get USM back in the top half of the league.
Do you think Floy'd recruiting has turned out well?Originally posted by Lucaminer:

I am not going anywhere with this. I never intended it to be a comparison between the two coaches. Doc rode BCG's coat tails to the Nebraska job. He made the NCAA with the team BCG built and the NIT with Jason Williams leading the way. He struggled recruiting here as well as at Nebraska. I think Doc does a great job as a bench coach. If you are asking if I would rather have Floyd or Sadler I would choose Floyd everytime. But I have no gripe with Doc. I wish him well. I also am not going to sit here and say Floyd has recruited out of this world. He hasn't.Originally posted by El Paso Chihuahuas:

Tim took too many chances with recruiting trying to land the "big recruits" and look at where it's gotten us. He has never had a consistent team in his 5 years here. They could lose to one of the worst teams in the country and can keep up with one of the best teams in the country.
So what if you think Doc is a bad recruiter? He got the job done here.
