Whoever the new AD is will need to prove himself right out of the gate to gain support of El Paso sports fans.

1. First, make a good impression when introduced. Show some vision and passion.
2. Make a solid hire for head football coach. If we end up with someone like Eric Price who did not do well as an OC after he left UTEP and has not coached, recruited for a while, then I give up on UTEP athletics.
3. If #2 is good then I want to see Floyd's feet held to the fire. NCAA/NIT appearance or adios.
4. Improve the fan experience at FB games, including tailgating but especially including an entertaining offense that can score and eventually win more than lose.
5. Fund raising that pays for better coaches and improvements in facilities.

In other words, not much for the new guy to do, right?

My one and two would be

1. Build a football practice facility with an indoor practice field and two full size outdoor fields.

2. Secure the funding for the 60 million dollar renovation of the Sun Bowl. A splash hire would help greatly in this effort.

Promote and maintain winning in an upward or cyclical fashion.

Get coaches that can recruit FB and BB and win.

Get us to the MWC or AAC.

Fix the video production. And please add sound... Switch to streaming to ESPN3.
Update the selection of sounds on the PA system in both BB and FB.
Convince the students to add an athletics fee. Many programs have them. Needs to be worded right.
If its Park, show that you are your own person.
Fire Floyd- eventually... lol

I’m glad it’s not just me but whoever is handling the music in between plays and time outs needs to go. And take the PA guy from the women’s BB games with them

While we are at it lets make a hype video and a bad ass intro for football and basketball. My son could probably even do it with some good video to choose from. We need cameras in the stands/side of the court and above the backboard to get some better highlights and 360 degree angles. The highlights from the floor below the basket are ok but not for ALL of them!

All I know is I have Baylor season tickets and the intro and just the feel of the game makes utep look like they are in high school

-Refurbish Miner Vision video production truck
It was done about two years ago when the HD videoboards were installed. They did not buy a used HD video production truck.

If the athletic department is serious about getting a indoor practice facility, UTEP should model it after Spire Institute in Geneva, OH: http://www.cleveland.com/healthfit/index.ssf/2011/05/spire_sports_complex_in_geneva.html
  • Roof high enough for punting.
  • Field lined for softball and soccer.
  • 300 meter eight- lane track (home stretch has 10- lane, 150m straight with seating for up to 5,000.
  • State of the art lighting, timing, scoreboard and sound systems.
  • It would be good enough to bring the NCAA Indoor Track regional/ final to the 915.
