Does ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ QB transfer affect ticket sales?

We all forget this completely forgettable "highly ranked" transfer? Keith Frazier.

A mcDonalds all American, top 20 overall recruit! And he was one of the worst teammates I ever saw wear a UTEP jersey. If I recall correctly, he didn't even finish the year. It was good riddance.

I'm extremely hyped about Nelson's signing but it's silly to think one player is going to move the needle with attendance before they've taken a snap. After the opening game, Utep attendance is 100% dependent on team success after years of failure.
This is the home of 66 Champs and 92 Sweet 16 baby! Home of the 2010, 2014, and 2021 New Mexico Bowl participants too! All 6 home games will be sold out before September thanks to Malachi the savior!!!

That schtick was old awhile ago.

You are a negative person and never have anything nice to say.

I think UTEP is gonna market the hell out of this and that UT Martin game will have a big crowd. If we open with a win at Utah State, Sun Bowl will have 40k+
Home opener will be sold out, if it's not UTEP better get their marketing in order... They need to approach it like they did the UNT game from a few years back. Try to get it 75% sold out before Utah State lol

Frazier was by all accounts a good kid and teammate. He has a mental health issue and left the team midway through the year. Even Floyd said he was a good kid and wished there was more he could’ve done for him

I'm sure he's a great kid (probably I. His 30s now) but he didn't try on the court and jacked up shots without passing it. Floyd was probably too polite to say anything poorly of him. But i watched him play and I watched him practice. He was terrible on the court. But that's not my point.

My point is I remember all of the fanfare his signing brought, how excited we all were, and it didn't move the needle appreciatively in the stands on game night, which is the topic here.

Winning will cure everything. And with Nelson's signing, we have a little bit more hope we can get there.

The underbelly of dashed hopes known as college basketball.

You’re forgetting the magnificent 2009 CBI runner-up season. Still waiting on that banner to be hung at The Don. 🤡

Back from the hyperbolic "UTEP sucks at everything" commentary, I expect Malachi to improve:

-Efficiency
(a)Better third down efficiency
(b)Passing efficiency
(c)RPO run/pass read efficiency. "Keep the chains moving". The whole point of the RPO/Pistol. IMO, this is why Scotty went after him.
-Arm strength/accuracy
(a) For the past few years UTEP has had qb's with legs, moxy and cajones and one who literally fling the pigskin across the Sun Bowl (Hardison), but not one who could make good back to back split second decision and great reads
(b) Hardison could heave it to a well covered wr on a dime a times but couldn't complete a 3 five to ten without throwing a ninety mph fastball. He had zero finesse. It killed drives and that kills efficiency. Locklear had ok legs, and the determination of a fighter. However, he just didn't have the athleticism needed at even this mid major level. McConnell, too. Both had an ok arm but neither were the most accurate.
-Field General attributes
(a)Always aware of time, clock and timeouts. Coaches FUBAR sideline management. Dimel was horrid and Scotty was not a whole helluva lot better.
(b)Can read defenses well. Sometime the best thing to do is take the sack or throw it out and play another down. With UTEP, our qb's would force an errant pass leading to INTs.
(c) Leadership. The "its on my shoulders" attitude. Players in the huddle respect and listen.
-Expanding the playbook (for whoever calls the plays). Great QB's make their OC and HC look good when things look not so good
-The obvious, (he will) sell tickets early. Fannies in seats is a cash cow driver for FBS right behind conference streaming/TV contracts.

Which game film of his did you break up to give us this insightful post?

Hell yeah! One of UTEP’s memorable championship runs. It’s a shame UTEP doesn’t have a banner to commemorate it. Maybe we should start up a collecta to have one made.
We would have one hanging if Jim Senter was AD at that time. He made rings for the boyz for losing in the New Mexico Bowl.

Bingo.

20 pass attempts, 1 INT in his collegiate career and . If you listen to the BBOC podcast in August they reported Nelson was getting outplayed daily by the 38th ranked player in Utah (Madsen). Collin Wilson and Stuckey had a good inside source and I was very high on Nelson going to Boise from a betting standpoint but he never made any noise and there was some pretty bad things said about him.

Gonna be funny when Locklear or McConnell or the new freshman start over him. I like the upside the freshman from SA has over this potential Diva.
Just gonna leave this here to marinate the board…

Ok. A couple things come to mind. My hope is that he just didn't fit the mold at Boise State. Hard to figure out where the discrepancy lies when ESPN had him as the #1 recruit out of high school. He obviously has high athletic ability, but then so did Kai Locksley. Still, I have a difficult time believing this kid, 247's #13 recruit and Rivals #14 recruit nationally in 2023, can't be a difference maker at this level. Perhaps I'm setting myself up for disappointment. So be it. But I'm banking on this kid finding his mojo again as a Miner.

Good enough to beat them last time we played.
Honestly That win really don’t mean shit in the grand scheme of things and clearly didn’t move the needle here my brother from another. ❤️

UTEP finished the year 5-7 and Boise won 10 games and sadly got worked in the conference championship game. If UTEP had went to a bowl that win is a signature one for sure.

Boise has won 27 games and three conference championship game appearances since then meaning their staff has the right to call other G5 teams whatever they hell they want IMO.

We as UTEP fans have a right to be pissy when someone disses us but in this case he’s 100 percent correct and we gotta take a L on this one.

You Never hear coaches say what they really wanna say but DK let loose there and kept it 💯. DK was about unload on Nelson when he asked about the camp competition but regained coaches speak composure really quick.

Wonder if Walden will troll that tweet or any UTEP staffer.

While what you say here 100% true, you can't help but notice that DK appears to be SOUR over the situation.
