Given the choice of two options, which would you rather have: 1. Hitting and tackling practice and run the risk of injury to the starters and screwing up your depth chart? Or, 2. Save the hitting and tackling for the beginning of the season and work out the issues as the season progresses?
Sometimes UTEP lands real talent but most times gets what the rest of the D-1 teams ahead of them don't need or want or has 3 or 4 deep. I'd rather save these precious resources UTEP has for when the season starts because injuries will come sooner or later and depletion of talent is quick to reveal itself.
I don't know if anyone saw the Northwestern/Stanford game yesterday but the NW defense was awful at tackling yesterday and the analyst stated they had not practiced much of hitting and tackling due to issue with injuries. UTEP isn't alone in this concern. Hope the UTEP injury report this week is minimal.
