Football game on Friday

I noticed that by the attendance last game. Might as well be 2-9. No one gives a damn anymore. Most of us on this board live out of town. Seems we're part of the few who care.

I want to say the low attendance was because of bad experience at UTSA game for some and 3 straight losses. I would think attendance might have been better with a 6/7pm kickoff? Maybe not. I certainly don’t believe it would have been much better had we beat UNT.

Considering that 40-60k were expected at the downtown winterfest I can already hear the excuses why only 10k showed up for a 6/7pm kickoff.

Winter fest probably took away up to 10,000 potential tickets. Still though, there’s always stuff to do here in El Paso other than a UTEP game.

I can understand that. Imo UTEP made the right call to not go head to head with winterfest. It might be too much for some families but the game ended at the perfect time to drive down Mesa and head to Winterfest.

As someone who went to the game, I had zero interest in being around people after being at the Sun Bowl for almost seven hours. And it’s tough out there economically, especially with inflation being the way it currently is. I can’t blame families for not wanting to bring their kids to games, regardless of ticket specials, when milk and gas are the prices they are.

7 hours? Why?

This is interesting. I think UTEP wins this game. UAB is coming off a very disappointing loss where they choked away their chance of winning the CUSA West division title. Both teams are locked into their bowl slots. UTEP is coming in riding high from last week. I think we get the win here. I don't think UAB shakes their hangover.

UTEP 42
UAB 28

I actually do think attendance would have been a little better with a later kickoff. Not sure how much better but still better than what we got

But, if you announce the Cowboys are having a practice session in the Sun Bowl at $100 a seat, you'll get 50k El Pasoans lining up in 30 degree weather to buy tickets and it sells out....
The Cowboys have nothing to do with this. Professional teams and college teams are apples and oranges. Terrible comparison

Basically any concert/event that UTEP hosts at the Don/Sun will have better attendance than UTEP basketball/football.

Start winning consistently and fans will attend in greater numbers . Let's not forget UTEP has consistently served-up shit sandwiches the last 50 yeears with 43 losing seasons in that timeframe.
I would believe that if we hadn't had crowds of 50k when Nord and Price first won. What were the loss to winning season ratios back then? 2 winning seasons in 40+ years?

Last time we have an easy flight into Alabama for a conference game. Next time we'll have to fly into Birmingham and bus almost 90 minutes to Jacksonville.
