Under the Radar!!!

Nice on paper, see if it results with anything on the field

Was just gonna post the same thing. The one and only thing that matters is wins. Recruiting is a positive sign, but it's not the same thing as wins. Just like time of possession or steals. Nice stats, but the only stat that matters is how many W did you get.

Once I see a causal effect of recruiting = more wins, THEN I'll get all excited about the recruiting. Best I can offer right now is cautious optimism.

I get that, but people on here complained about recruiting being a main reason Kugler and Dimel weren’t successful. So Walden is proving you can recruit here, which many of us even doubted. So I’m excited, but of course want to see this equal success. I have said year 3 we will see the dividends, but next year 6 wins min should be the expectation.

I agree a lot of people said that. I for one never bought it. Look at the god awful places players go. El Paso is better than a whole lotta places players go. It's not El Paso, and it's not UTEP, it's the perpetual suckage that has hurt recruiting.

I think the new NIL helped out a little. But It's not only Utep that is recruiting good. Lof of G5 schools are getting top notch players.

UTEP has earned the right to keep out other FBS doormats!
But that’s why as a UTEP fan I don’t want to say that. But let’s say worst case scenario they are terrible and they’re Sam Houston St 2.0, are they more attractive than C-USA teams? Granted we moved because we were the prettiest pig in the contest but are they still an attractive program?

Sam Houston won 10 games and a bowl game in their first season of being bowl eligible..

Interesting that Miner fans are quite apathetic and understandably so that no one is excited that today is National Signing Day for Football and Walden signed a Top 75 Class!!!

It’s definitely something to be happy about. 53 new players is a lot.

My reservation now is that you get excited, then the portal opens and they’re gone. Like the Big Time Tight End from last year played like 10 snaps. You wonder if any of these guys will stay long enough to make an impact.

But I do think the influx of talent is reason to be optimistic.

I think a lot of these guys will be gone after the spring game. Walden is probably just getting bodies and competition. Let the best man win the job. I think the only for sure starters for next year are Odom and Kam? But Walden did bring in some talented WRs so maybe they not safe either??

Scholarship limits were increased from 85 to 105 so I don’t think this is an over recruiting situation and we may not see that much attrition after the Spring Game. But you never know, things are so different now

What do you think of the QB situation?? Too me it's very crowded. I have to think Nelson is the starter. I dont think he comes if he isnt the starter. The spring game will be interesting.

I think the kid from SA is our future. Nelson will probably start because they promised it to him. However, I think he blows it.

Gonna be tough to keep the 6A All State QB with Nelson being added on but that creates some great competition. Starting will be earned and deserved and the 2nd stringer will go to another school

Hopefully Warner knows he needs a year to strengthen his body and bulk up a bit to avoid injury. He has a very slight frame from the waist up. Great athlete. Agile. But needs to beef up for this level of play, imo.

Do you think Utep got Warner early?? I'm shocked he only had like four offers.

Here is what one sports writer had to say about UTEP:

UTEP football has experienced a notable surge in recruiting success, securing back-to-back top-ranked classes in C- USA.

"This development marks a significant shift for a program that has historically struggled to attract top talent. The Miners' recent recruiting efforts have focused on building a strong offensive line, which could be a key factor in their success in the upcoming 2025 season. With a favorable road schedule, UTEP is aiming for at least 6 wins this year. The season opener against Utah State will be a crucial test for the team under head coach Scotty Walden. A strong performance against Utah State could signal a significant shift in the program's trajectory. "
