Now that it’s clear Frazier is our best scorer, he’s going to get a lot of attention from defenders.

This should open up scoring opportunities for Omega, Wade, Osborne and Willms — will they step up?

But he jacks up everything. Don't get me wrong, I like the dude, but the other kids need to stop taking a back seat and be the man...

Let him shoot all he wants. His fg percentage is 53%. He shoots the 3 at a 40% clip and even though he hasn't been clutch from the line, he' hits at 72%.

I do agree with you however, that others need to man the fuk up, take more shots and play more aggressively on the offensive end. That's not on Frazier, though.

I love Randy, but he really forced shots as a freshman. He got better with shot selection as he gained more experience. The thing with this team is that many times their poor offensive sets are forcing them to settle for bad shots. I have no problem with Frazier putting up good shots, but he needs to avoid settling for low percentage, high difficulty ones. This applies to the other guys as well. They have some guys who can drive; they need to take advantage of that. Both Boise St. and App. St made their late game comebacks by driving aggressively to the basket. They either scored or got fouled. With how tight the refs call the games, we need to take advantage of this. With Willms out, we will need to go small and aggressively attack the rim. In fact, we need to do this even when he returns.

True and you are spot in about the driving. Osborne, Omega, Frazier and Gilyard would have a field day in the dribble drive offense.

I think the most potential lies with Trey Wade based on what we saw from him in the exhibitions. He just needs more minutes and more confidence, because he has the skills. So far he's been a non entity.

I don't think anyone is tentative in scoring. Frazier knows how to score. You don't become an All American by poop talking your way to the top of the heap. UTEP just doesn't have enough to compliment because of CTF recruiting and departures. We're having to rely on freshman for pete's sake!

Agreed. But what about Omega, Willms (who has had only one strong game), PT...

Those guys aren't freshmen. They should be complimenting Frazier.

In all honesty, their lack of production doesn't even surprise me. We've seen this year after year under Floyd. Very few, aside from Ced, have developed year after year. Most have seemingly regressed. Is anyone all that surprised?

Floyd was tinkering\messing up the lineups in the tournament. He was also hindering the offense ,wanting them to run his slow place offense, with Wilms as the focal point. Frazier got the green light from Floyd so he could jack up shots, but everyone else was required to run the offense. With Wilms gone, he definitely got to play more small ball, which I think will actually open up the court for everyone else.

Omega is slightly hurt. He's trying to grind it on the court because he knows he is badly needed.

Willms has played well. He just doesn't look powerful doing it but he's been our second best player by far. I'm surprised regarding PT. Only when he started rebounding last year did his game explode. This year he forgot that and has regressed. Also Frazier has taken away opportunities from him so he needs to make his own by rebounding. Wade has given us the same numbers as PT so far but has played better D IMO. He is undersized for PF but thats where he is gonna be the next few weeks.

what he said

PT has not shown up this year. Osborne and Wade seem to have more talent. lets hope PT sees the writing on the wall (marker board) and gets his butt in gear or it will be riding the bench.

No doubt. However, PT is probably gonna see some extended minutes at the 5. Tirus is not going to be able to hold it down for long stretches unfortunately.

I like Paul Thomas, but the reality is that he is a tweener between a small forward and a power forward. He stated that in high school, he wasn't even asked to rebound. At the D1 level, he will struggle against "true" physical and bigger PFs. I thought all three teams in South Carolina were bad matchups for his skill set. He definitely needs to be more aggresive, but having him at the 5 is going to be tough. The thing about the team with Winn, Artis, Morris, Omega, and Lee Moore was that even at 6'6" Winn was able to hold his own defending bigger players. Thomas is not nearly as physical, and will need plenty of double team help. This will lead to open shots on the defensive end. I am all for any style that leads to wins; but I think Willms being out is going to present huge problems. Hopefully, Tirus can come in and defend and rebound. Last year, Floyd mentioned that Tirus could have helped that team. Well, as luck has it, we will see if Floyd was on the mark the next few weeks.

PT was not the model of consistency last year. His numbers picked up after the start of CUSA, but he still had some down games in regards to scoring and rebounding. We all saw what he could do the 1st time against the Florida schools and then he dominated at UNT/Rice and played well from there. His expectations from his coaches, teammates and our fan base are high this year.

At the tournament he got a total of 9 rebounds and zero blocked shots. He needs to use his athleticism more. Once he starts rebounding and finishing at the rim everything will open up for him
