No. Texas St is close enough to Austin, where that’s the only thing that matters.
I don't think Texas State will accept but it'll be interesting to see what happens with them. The AAC and PAC are also interested. The MWC is the worst of the three.

Twelve years ago, this program was starting FBS football. Today, they’re paying top tier salaries in the GFive. We’re falling further behind, and catching up is looking tougher by the day.
Texas St has a coach that others might be interested in. Nobody has been interested in a UTEP football coach since Bob Stull. Won’t stop Texas Tech or Kansas St from coming in and taking him.
Texas St is here at the right place at the right time. Put them in Midland and they’re no better than us. Being near San Antonio and Austin gives them a benefit that UTEP can never duplicate. That is the difference, nothing else.
They’ve had two good football seasons and they’re not even close to Boise or Liberty good seasons.

They know they can’t keep him long term, but they’re savvy enough to recognize his value. Any school that wants him will have to pay up. This is his second contract extension in two years, both well earned through on field success. Texas State is positioning itself perfectly to cash in and make a substantial profit.
Yup. And years back UTEP allowed an up n' comer former Illinois assistant to coach UTEP without signing. Try starting any new job without signing?!
