It's in UTEPs best interest that the Big 12 selects CSU.

Will CSU be picked by the Big 12 creating an opportunity for UTEP?

  • Yes

    Votes: 5 15.6%
  • No

    Votes: 21 65.6%
  • Yes but the MW will not take UTEP

    Votes: 6 18.8%

  • Total voters
    32
In order to have any more Texas teams in the B12, there would have to be a super majority of yes votes on the table. That means 8 other schools would have to vote yes for it. There is Texas and then there is???

7 teams other than UT are needed. 8 votes are necessary, from what I understand.

It's not that Texas cares for UH all that much, or any for that matter. However, key players in the Texas legislature are pushing hard for this to happen. Make no mistake, this isn't just about fb. Hell, even Red McCombs is loudly barking that the Coogs need to be included in the B12. Why is that? Go figure. Ultimately, all Texas schools will follow suit and vote affirmative for UH. ISU Pres, Leath, came out with his carefully worded endorsement of Houston today. WVU Pres, and UH Pres, Khator, have become "chummy" as he speaks highly of her, Houston athletics and UH as an institution. As top dawg along with UT, I can't see Oklahoma going rogue at this time.True, the B12 will probably crash around 2024-25, when the GOR expires, but I don't think Boren is ready to cause any rift between the two schools just yet. OK Lite will follow big bro. And in a showing of solidarity, I expect the two outliers, KU and KSU, to demonstrate a front of conference solidarity. I think ultimately the Coogs will get a unanimous nod and inclusion into the Big XII.

Then again, I could be totally effing wrong!

Houston wont get support from any of the other Texas schools. Houston is a huge threat to Tech, Baylor and TCU. UH damages the recruiting of all those schools. Tech has been championing SMU for the past month, because they are terrified at the prospect of UH in the big 12.

When A&M left the big 12, UH became theor desired school. Mainly because of academics, those are very important to the administration of Texas. Its also a shot at A&M. Houston has always been an Aggie market. UH in the big 12 blunts Aggie influence in Houston. There is also a political aspect. If the state ever designates another flagship school Texas wantss it to be UH. The most deserving school is probably UT Dallas. There are people who think UTD is a better school than UT Austin. Lots of great national pub in the last few years for utd. Texas under no circumstances wants UTD to become a flagship institution. They also dont want Tech, because they are emvarrased by their academics. They dont have a problem with Houston. UH has great academics and is in the biggest city in Texas. Being in the big 12 would put Houston in the lead to become a flagship institution. The state legislature wont designate any school a flagship institution in the next legislative session. It may be a decade until they do but being in Houston and a p5 conference makes UH the favorite.

1) Every FBS school in Texas is a threat to Tech. Seriously, I'm not kidding. Tech's geopolitics within the state against the smaller FBS schools (UTEP for starters) is something to be taught in a masters' class.

2) Baylor has nothing to worry about. They actually have real tangible power and access and the all important Baptist Southern Convention (Texas Native American's #1 public enemy). Those folks like to sit on executive boards and put out public letters along with their official title of whatever it may be just to take up domain space and show the state "hey, look at us!". Baylor had Briles departure check even before Briles knew what hit him.

3) UTD. Good reputation and good school. Not enough programs and not enough power within Texas politics. Goes head to head with UTEP for appropriation money and loses sometimes.

4) TCU? Oh yeah, Dubya lives near by and a Panera Bread on every corner and a good football program. I really don't think Houston is concerned with TCU.

Come on now. I waited just a couple days to respond, knowing that after UT announced its endorsement of UH, it was just a matter of time before other Texas schools would follow. We're just missing Baylor's, and frankly, they really have bigger fish to fry at the moment other than to be giving public endorsements out. They will vote for UH inclusion behind the scenes, though. TT was on board as of Saturday and TCU is on board now as well. Just waiting on the non-Texas schools, aside from ISU who already did so, to go public with affirmative support of the Coogs.

Public endorsements and actual votes in a closed conference room are two different things entirely.

Why is the Big 12 so eager to squander their hard-won fight to host a championship game with 10 teams? There must have been some serious arm-twisting to pass that ridiculous rule, and now that will be all for naught by expanding the conference. Why split the pie among more schools than you have to?

The only answer is that these new schools will grow the pie by bringing in more TV revenue by opening more markets. But it works for the Big Ten because the members are equals; the Big 12 is subservient to Texas who already has their own pie, the Longhorn Network, all to themselves. The Big Ten model won't work for the Big 12.

Tell you what, Mr. Forlife, you've obviously had things all figured out for awhile now, why don't you just go ahead and tell us all how this thing is gonna end. Please...

Of course they are different things, but do you honestly believe that no other Texas school is going to vote for UH? Are you just being stubborn by holding on to your viewpoint, or do you really believe your own statement, even with all the national coverage these endorsements are garnering and the obvious direction things are going?

You said it. Greed. They increase the number of teams in their conference, tied into a nice sized market, and locked down by an excited fan base, balances out into a just cause to charge more for broadcast rights. No one in the Big 12 likes Texas because of the LHN and UT isn't about to let ESPN off the hook for agreeing to fund it. To compensate the other schools (and keep them from bailing later should the Pac 12, SEC, or another conference come calling), they'll want to increase the revenue for each school. The only way to do that is add teams to the pie. It'll be good for Houston and whomever the Big 12 takes.

You answered your own question. To them it's the damned Longhorn Network that has some of the current members with the underwear in a twist. There was serious arm twisting and UT is going to protect that network like a spoiled child and sometimes you have to give in so the silver spoon doesn't get pulled out.
