I can get behind this. Coach Walden is putting his oney where his mouth is.
How can you not respect this? The guy is putting his money where his mouth is. He’s giving the community a reason to give and he’s leading by example. I’m really rooting for these guys this year because if he can get it together on the field we’ve got ourselves an absolute Gem. And personally I’m going to change by donations to football only because Senter and Golding are content to live behind an iron curtain, content to have the local media pepper them with puff pieces.
I tried four times to contribute, and it kept giving me an error message, typical.
Hopefully this means the computers can't handle the current level of traffic and not UTEP doing UTEP things.

He’s putting all his chips on the table for 2025, and will parlay his $70k into a million dollar job if he wins here.
No hate. I can respect that. And that $140k might put him over the edge to get a couple of studs and win 8-9 games.

Talking to us straight. Acknowledging the fans (see this Golding?). He's out in the community doing work with the team. The entire pitch was not him pitching in, but him and wife. True leaders are role models.
How can anyone not like this guy? He's got 29,231 bracelets on! Just need the wins to prove it.

Better enjoy this before he’s gone … my worry though is someone will see what he’s done and grab him from Utep if he gets maybe 7 wins and then he takes most of his team with him …. And we never really get to see success
It still beats finishing in the bottom 10 every year with a coach that gets 6 years here. At least it proves you can recruit to El Paso and that lame ass excuse can’t be used anymore to justify UTEP’s constant acceptance of mediocrity.

I was just thinking: The only guy that got the hook kind of quick was Gary Nord. He got us our last conference title in football and Stull canned him 3 years later. By UTEP standards that’s a short leash.

I love that he got two top recruiting classes because like you said that shows it’s a bunch of bs you can’t recruit here and he did it with minimal nil

Scotty will be gone, sooner rather than later... That's fine, I personally believe he has set the foundation on how to recruit to UTEP and to the EP community alike. The expectation should be higher, than the way he found it... At least recruiting wise. If I was a P4 or even a G5 school, if Scotty can recruit to UTEP, he can recruit anywhere! If this coaching stuff don't work out, he will make a terrific AD some day.
I’m also contributing and challenge everyone on this board and other UTEP fans to pony up. This is the new era of college sports in America. It will take UTEP fans, Alumni and the city of El Paso to step up and generate extra funds. I admire Coach Walden for thinking outside the box and bringing back to back top CUSA recruiting classes to El Paso. Miner fans should No Longer settle for old excuses of not being able to recruit good talent to El Paso. Golding should take note of this and do the same for our basketball program.

I hope you're right. Even if he doesn't work out, he has proven that there is a way to get talent here.
Anyone think Walden wouldve sealed the deal on KJ Lewis and Jayden Leverette? Did Leverette even give Utep a chance??
Remember Walden did get Shay Smith to stay and he had better offers. But it also looks like Walden is striking out on the local talent for 2026.
I mean come on Golding could have two local kids to build around. Why aren't local businesses jumping on the opportunity?? Can Chapin do anything?? Can they don't donate to Utep?

They’ve raised 30k in just 2 days. That’s a great amount to start off with, and I hope it doesn’t lose steam. But it’s great to see the fans stepping up. It goes to show people will give even if it is a small amount. It also hilights how awful UTEP is at fundraising.
The more I take away from Walden is that Golding and Senter as good as they are, they are not built for this 2025/NIL world of college athletics. Walden and his staff are out there making online content, shotgunning offers and putting himself out there taking ridiculous photos and trying to raise money.
Those are the types of guys we need at UTEP. This school will never be big enough where all someone has to do is make some phone calls and people start cutting checks. You need guys who are going to work at an almost obsessive level to make that money.
