Kimani Jones-Young

Impressive resume and coaching in that region of NY I'm sure gave him great access to top notch recruiting pipelines. Not knocking his working on the St. John's staff which is great experience, but working in one of the largest metro areas of the USA (and a hot bed of basketball talent) in those youth basketball programs speaks major volumes to colleges and head coaches looking for young coaching talent.

Good for him for Carpe Diem'ing those opportunities to be an assistant on a B10 staff. UTEP fans will no doubt be hearing his name "Head Coach" in the near future for a p5 conference school.

What I remember about Kimani was that he was a player that was probably not "highly" recruited. But under Haskins teachings he turned into the team's leading scorer by the team he was a senior and their lockdown defender. Unlike our current head coach that has a carousel door with players coming in and out.

Kimani was an honorable mention McDonald's All American his senior year. (I didn't know that until reading his bio.) He was a great player and appears to be an even better person and coach. We would be lucky to have someone like that back in El Paso.

KJY spent one year in the federal pen after he was arrested and convicted of transporting 96lbs of marijuana back in 1999, I doubt he will ever get a division I head coaching job

Yeah...I didn't want to spoil the positive talk about Kimani ;) But he did the time so let it be.

It seems like he has learned from his mistakes and made the absolute most of his opportunities. Good for him. I'm sure he is going to get a lot of resistance applying for head coaching jobs but 17-18 years is a long time.

Really cool redemption story. Takes a lot perseverance to make a life for yourself after going through the criminal justice system. I think I would still hire him.
Yes, and I'm sure Kimani would be more in touch w/today's players.
