Mike Price baby!

Mike Price will more than likely be consulted with in the HC search.

Love him or hate him he is part of this program, and the return cements, to me at least the love he has for UTEP.
He doesn't have to do this, he could continue fishing, public speaking or whatever retirement has brought him. I respect him for that.

Guy Holiday, Eric Price, Robert Rodriguez, Andre Patterson

I'd imagine any of these could get Price's support for HC.

But we can't continue to rely on what has been comfortable for this admin. We have to think outside the box, make a thorough search and hire an up and comer. Even if this is a stopgap for the next coach, we need someone to inject life into what could be a goldmine. Please Lord can we just get one.

Unless Price can turn Batson or Reddix into the next Higgins or Lee Mays its not going to happen. Price offense demands a go to receiver.

Unfortunately I don't see much change in being able to install a new offense. I do think we will do some new stuff but it won't be the old days.

Price won't add much to the schemes, we don't have the right personnel or the time for him to change much. Just hopes he changes the energy and confidence of the team.

I could see Price putting Juniel at the slot for some plays which Kug recruited him for but I doubt Price calls that up. It may be too late in the season.

Some people here think that CMP is going to have an impact, get real people. Why set yourselves up for more disappointment? This is just a means to an end. I only hope it's not enveloped in nepotism involving one of his sons for the permanent coaching gig.

We are so quick to forget the "dumpster fire" he left... This stinks like Eric Price to UTEP... I hope not. UTEP need someone outside of Stull's realm...
I guess you don't understand that Price did more for this program than any other coach! This man has proven his worth! My God, what else do you want. He was the National Coach of the Year! He won here, and he is happy to help!

I'm not expecting a win on Sat. Keep in mind Price will practice with the team for the first time on Wed. But I am expecting more than what I got from the Kugs. It should be a fun one, the Sun Bowl will have more people than with Kugler.

He over achieved with Nord recruits. Nord could recruit hidden gems. He did that after he left. Nord just lost control after that. Players were seen on the sideline on cell phones during games and the Cal Poly game was mired in "alleged" partying on the eve of that game.

Don't fall for this fans. The team held UTEP hostage for Stull to hire Nord years back.

They damn well know Kug offense was too vanilla to compete in CUSA much less CUSA west! C'mon fellas?! You all had Kug walking the plank two years ago because he wouldn't "open up the offense".

I like the idea of having Natkin serving as the OC with Mike Price at the helm. He'll be exposed to different ideas than the narrow-minded "smashmouth" Kugler philosophy and hopefully add to his bag of tricks.

I'd like to see Natkin continue as the OC under the next coach, who hopefully installs a spread, and then Natkin will be ready to take over as that coach's successor, after he's earned his stripes.

It rarely works that way.

Natkin said at the press conference that we need to continue running the ball and be physical. Could be a clash between him and Price.

Lol well it was as a player because it damn sure wasn't as a coach. One year with Prices players. Don't try and get a dig on the way out man.

It was a back handed compliment but I'm cool with it. Many fans who follow UTEP football will not miss heavy stack formation on third and long situations just like they don't miss David Lee's "wrap around draw" on third and long too. So the feeling is mutual.

However, he is familia. He is one of us. I know he feels like the under appreciated little brother who tried to do the right thing for the family but got disrespected by angry siblings. Time heals wounds.

Price never won the WAC or C-USA. He never won a bowl game. He actually had a losing record at UTEP and also has a losing record overall. A few good seasons doesn't make a whole career.

He did have a practically great season by UTEP standards in his 1st year. He did increase attendance by winning. He did some fun things and had an exciting offense at times.

UTEP needs more and deserves more IMO. I'm so sick and tired of all the excuses. Can somebody break the door down and show what this University and city are capable of? Lets hope the next AD and coach can kickstart this thing.

What I don't understand is w/Price we beat Boise St or played them close, the same can be said with Tulsa and Houston -- then they went on to bigger and better things. What happened here?

Boise St thrashed UTEP in year 1. Tulsa thrashed UTEP on a regular basis (even putting up 70 on the miners once). UTEP did fare better against Houston and did beat them when they were ramked #12 behind the play of Donald Buckram. I will give you that.

For the most part CMP had good starts to the season but awful finishes. A lot of those early season games involved road trip paydays. If he can treat this like the beginning of a season minus all the road P5 teams we might have a little bit of success.

All these players were recruited for and developed under Kugler's smashmouth system. They're not built to run a west coast offense or a spread, and the players aren't fluent in those systems. Plus, Price is taking over without the first string quarterback (Metz).

If Price is able to win any games at all this season, taking over mid-season and installing a system that none of the players were recruited or trained to run, and starting a backup quarterback, what does that say about Kugler?

I really don't expect much and I don't understand why Price would even want this thankless task. He must really love the school/city; it can't be about his legacy.

Getting his sons better jobs is part of his legacy.

That's not how I remember it at all. The final score was 47-31 and the outcome was in doubt well into the game. UTEP was leading during the third quarter.
Yes you are correct. I was thinking of the first game against Arizona St. Boise St. was #12 at the time. 04-05 was the best year in UTEP history IMO. We lost to Tulsa by 2 points the last game and then a heartbreaker to Colorado in the bowl game. The next year we lost another heartbreaker to Texas Tech at home. Price could have changed UTEP lore by winning a conference title, a bowl game and beating a power 5 school all in a period of about 4 games. He didn't. I give him credit for an awesome 1st few years by UTEP standards, but after that he collapsed. It just goes to show what can be done at UTEP and how the city will respond. Thats what we need to be looking for. Someone to break down the door, not put some dents in it. I know he is just bridging the gap, and maybe the average fan will be excited about Price, I'm just not.

Can you at least be excited that the Kugler era is over and not going to drag on through either 2020 or through an ugly contract buy-out? Can you at least be excited that a new coach(a new coach is exactly what so many wanted) is actually going to happen? Who cares who the interim coach is, why are you even bothered by that, be excited about those bigger developments in our Program.

I'm sure glad. But does anyone notice the local sports media and out of area sports media reporting on this are now all of sudden in unison against Stull naming Mike Price? It all started last night after the news broke. Gawd these writers are something else.

Where the hell were all of you for the last two and half years when Kug football was flopping? You all were f'en drunk licking the boot heals of Aaron Jones is what you all were doing so just to have damned access. Meanwhile loyal football fans were frustrated with his "it's on me" interviews and nothing was getting done.

I am and I think I've pretty much said that. As far as Price being the interim coach...meh. Its just a ploy so save something after this massive fck up of a season and end to the Kugler/Stull era. If it gets some fans excited and they buy tickets then fine. I think we are on the same page. I AM looking forward to the new AD and the new coach.
