I will say this about NMSU from a fan perspective only. I don’t think there’s many fans that would rather have UC Davis in the MWC over NMSU. However, being in a different conference will “improve” non-conference schedules. A winnable football game and 1 or 2 decent basketball games.

Them being in the same conference really hurts the basketball schedule.

Not surprising. Nevada media has a reputation as fairly good research hounds on corruption, back room dealing, unfair trade, etc. but usually in state/regional politics. This is kind of surprising.

Only local media who will investigate is EPMatters but they are digital and lack financial resources to fight. I have been telling you all for a long time UTEP has a steel lid on their business matters, academic and athletic departments. (I.e.-the Aerospace leader ouster, engineers depart after grant problems, all within past year. Athletics, Golding contract extension, years of underperformance from Dimel and all fans/boosters get is a "50/50" comment from Wilson, the Floyd debacle, 4 years of underachieving from Golding!)

Very true, probably would piss a lot of people off if they knew UTEP was NOT broke. They could do more for athletics.

Hindsight is 20/20. If NMSU got into the MWC instead of UTEP the “UTEP gets left behind” thread would probably have more posts than the “Ominous Vibe” thread.

If plans fall through with Texas State, NMSU is the only option other than FCS. NMSU would probably take a fraction of the money too because anything is better money than CUSA.

The PAC is a glorified G5 conference built by Oregon State and Washington State, who will leave at the drop of a hat if invited to a true P5 conference. I'm looking forward to the media numbers finally being released for both the PAC and MWC.

What I'm happy about is the PAC survived and we will hopefully have two healthy western based conferences.

UTEP and NMSU are bottom spenders in FBS. The schools in the PAC 12 seem to think they were above other MWC schools, and then they’re going to add one of the worst FBS programs ever? Come on now, that doesn’t make sense.
