If Walden goes 7-6 at UTEP and wins a bowl game, that's gonna garner some interest, atleast from bigger schools.
Just curious, how is it that a young coach like Kinne, who accomplished far more at the FCS level than Walden ever did, and is now 16-10 after two seasons with two bowl wins at a program that doesn’t exactly have a rich football history, is still flying under the radar? Meanwhile, Walden, sitting at 10-15, is suddenly being talked about as a must hire guy? Feels like some narratives are doing a lot more work than the resumes.

Bro get out of here, you literally sound like you are on drugs or strong prescription medication. No one twisted your words I copied exactly what you said. Also what are you talking about?! No one ever said, that you said he’d be hired away bro, it’s the opposite! You said no bigger school would be interested in a 10-15 coach! Dude you don’t even pay attention to what you say anymore. You make 0 sense, end of that conversation you’re so lost bruh, stay off the green stuff maybe lol
You really need to learn how to express yourself more clearly, because right now you’re making absolutely no sense. Let me break it down for you. I stand by everything I said. If Walden goes 7-6 this year, he’s not getting hired away plain and simple. One decent season doesn’t suddenly make him a hot commodity.

Now if he shows sustained success over the next 2–3 years consistently winning, contending for conference titles then yes, at that point Senter would likely have to find a replacement. That’s how this works. It’s not complicated. Try keeping up.

I was all in for that version of the Mountain West. The one with stability, tradition, and full commitment from its members. But this current version? With half the schools seemingly having one foot out the door. Hard to get excited about that. It feels more like a temporary alliance than a real conference.
A conference without stability, tradition, and full commitment? You're describing the last 15 years of Conference USA. And things aren't getting better. Half the teams would switch conferences at the drop of a hat.

Ask Washington State and Oregon State where stability, tradition, and commitment gets you these days.

Back then, UTEP was having a ton more success than they are having now.

The current version of CUSA now, is a shell of its former self, and is only getting worse. You can't argue that right now, it is a vast improvement over CUSA, in money and teams. Regardless of how the future pans out, it is still a no brainer move for a university that has been terrible over the last few years.

My question: Would you have been happier if NMSU got taken into the MW, and UTEP was left in CUSA?

CUSA continues to decline, and it is never going to be better than a water downed MW regardless of the changes. You have to take it for what it is, an upgrade and a life line to a school that really has done nothing to deserve it.

I just don't see how you can't see the writing on the wall for CUSA and that even with the MW changing in the future, it will always be better than CUSA. Secondly, you are banking that UTEP actually is vastly more successful in the next 5 years. Where would you get the idea that will happen when they are fine giving a 3 year extension to a coach that has finished at near bottom of the conference the last 3 years.

My guess is that UTEP finishes towards the bottom of the MW, but at least is in a better conference with more revenue, because if things stay the same, you would be sadly disappointed where UTEP may be if they continued to stay in CUSA. They may be in a position where they cannot recover from.

I’m glad you clarified your mistake. I was clear you were contradicting yourself. You said in one breath, “He Won’t be hired away after year two, if he went 7-6 and won a Bowl game” Followed by then saying “When did I say he wouldn’t get interest from a bigger school after year 2” Followed by, “I hope they go 7-6 and win a bowl so you can see how much interest he gets” lol all good man it’s hard to keep up sometime, but I get ya and we shall see! It’s a big IF at this anyways, so whatever.

I still don’t see anywhere that I said Walden would be hired after Year 2. I’m pretty sure I mentioned early in the thread that it would take a magical season, something along the lines of 12-2.

In the short term, I wouldn’t be thrilled if NMSU ended up getting the invite we declined. That would sting no doubt. But looking at the bigger picture, I think it’ll ultimately be irrelevant.

Both conferences are trending in the same gradual decline direction . Over time, the gap between them will shrink to the point where they’re virtually indistinguishable in terms of competitiveness, exposure, and relevance.

I’d argue that the long term potential lies more in the central and eastern parts of the country than out west. There are simply more programs in those regions with growth opportunities to rise if given the platform. So while the Mountain West may have a slightly stronger brand right now, I don’t think it will hold up in the years to come. If anything, the landscape will level out and when it does, who got the invite in 2025 won’t really matter.

Corona, you’re lost brotha no body ever said you said that!!! As a matter of fact I said, you said the opposite. I’m not sure what you’ve been arguing or why you got confused. 🤔 Somewhere you got super lost. I never said you said that I literally said you, said he Would Not!!!

Let me be clear, our best shot at landing in the Pac12 was right now, in this moment of desperation and chaos. Not because we earned it through dominance or long term vision, but because the conference needed bodies, plain and simple. It’s the same way we ended up in the Mountain West in the first place. Right place, right time and just enough value to plug a hole.

And let’s not kid ourselves even if Scotty has some magical breakthrough season we’re not turning into the next hot commodity. If a move was going to happen, it was always going to be driven by realignment math, not football glory.

If Scotty does manage to find success and I hope he does, just remember who will be making the next head coaching hire. Look at that decision maker’s track record. Ask yourself if you trust them to get it right when the stakes are even higher.
Post 1661 you replied

Now you think Scotty Walden will get better job offers if he wins this coming year? Interesting 🤔 You were saying something different recently. As I already stated, if he wins this year and wins a Bowl game. Whether that’s in the form of 7,8,9 or more wins he’ll get calls based on his recruiting and ability to turn Utep around in 2 years!

Let me repeat this one more time. Nowhere in post 1659 do I say that Walden will be hired after Year 2. Yes, I do mention the possibility that Senter might eventually have to replace him but I’m referring to if Walden is successful and more likely in Year 3 or 4, not immediately after a 7-6 season.

It might help to actually read the full post before jumping to conclusions or throwing around insults like saying someone’s “on drugs” or “sounds like Trump.” Comments like that don’t reflect well on you, they just undermine your own credibility and understanding of the conversation.

Corona, yes brotha you are absolutely lost lol I never said that you said he’ll be hired after year 2. What are you arguing bro? lol it’s low key hilarious that you do not get it! I’m saying the complete opposite and agreeing that you said He Will Not be hired or considered by another school after year 2!!!! I’ve been saying if he wins a bowl game he will in fact get looks from Bigger Schools!!! We obviously disagree on that! Bro idk how you got lost a long the way lol 😆 I literally was never arguing that you ever said he’d get hired away from Utep year 2!!! Hahah 😂

lol ok 🤡… Move on Bro and add something productive to this thread 🧵 For instance how you believe Utep will be sharing a Conference one day with Cochise College or something, making the same as we make now and would’ve been better off traveling to play the Mighty Blue Hens of Delaware!!! Lmao 🤣

You really outdid yourself it’s impressive how confidently you speak without the burden of understanding. You said what you said and now you’re scrambling like a kid caught in a lie, trying to backpedal through a maze of your own nonsense. I’m done wasting time arguing with someone who’s clearly outmatched by their own words.

No Corona, I’m not back peddling. I actually think you’re a complete Idiot, but I said to the other posters on here I’d drop it. I still know everything I said and how you contradicted yourself and that’s what I was pointing out, but I was trying to bring it back to topic. Just no longer entertained by your Special Needs comprehension is all. So like I said move on back to you’re other terrible takes!

Sounds good. It’s painfully clear you don’t even remember what you said even after quoting your own statement, which honestly explains a lot. Go ahead and crawl back to that gem of a take about “the next KD” and how Joe Golding was definitely taking us to the NCAA tournament last year. Your track record of clueless predictions is truly unmatched, it’s like watching someone confidently miss the point every single time.

Funny how you stick to the KD thing when I never said Dude was the next KD. I said there were similarities in his game. Obviously that was even off and I was Man enough to admit it. I don’t know about saying Golding was taking us to the NCAA though 🤔 I can name many instances where I knew stuff you absolutely didn’t. For instance Jacksonville St. joining the conference before anyone in here or it was reported or that Golding already had an extension on his desk way back when and we had to just accept he’s staying. I know a lot more than you about Utep Athletics and many of the things I can’t say, because I’m told not to by the person who tells me. My takes on how well a player or team will do are no different than takes from a talk show host on ESPN or Fox Sports, sometimes they’re spot on and sometimes they’re off. However where I try to contribute real and sometimes over hopeful takes about Utep Sports. You like to tear down and speak negatively. I’ve been very contrite about being out on Golding now. I did give him 3 years though before coming to that decision. Your take on thinking Utep should’ve stayed is about to look real dumb when the numbers for the new deal come out, which I can tell you will not be under 3 million each school and probably closer to 4!

Wow, thank you so much for the groundbreaking update on Jacksonville State. Seriously, I was tossing and turning all night, wracked with anxiety over which FCS school C-USA was going to scoop up next. You’ve really put a lot of minds at ease.

And hats off to you for cracking the code on the Golding extension, pure detective work right there. Who could’ve ever guessed that after bringing in an entirely new coaching staff, they’d keep the head coach around? Just masterful insight. Truly, what would this board do without your elite level insider knowledge?

Thanks for your kind words 🙂 Those were just small examples. I don’t think you’ve contributed anything ever, but a negative attitude. Anyways always open to meet up in DFW to talk Utep Athletics, watch a game, have a beer and see if you’re as tough as you act on here in person lol I wager to say you’re not lol 😆 Also I’ll be in Austin for the Texas Utep game if you get a chance to go first Beers 🍺 on me! Anyways make sure to post your response when the numbers for the new MWC contract come out, we all would like to hear you walk back your comments like usual lol 😆

You call it a negative attitude, I call it being a realist. There’s a big difference between recognizing patterns of failure and living in some delusional “rah-rah, everything’s fine” fantasy land. Sorry if the truth stings. Maybe if UTEP didn’t have a mile long resume of underachievement, there’d be less to point out. But hey, if reality offends you, that’s not really my problem.

And “tough”? LMAO. What are you gonna do, fight me over message board comments. Please. I’m the same person online that I am face to face. I say what I think, the way I see it, no filters, no fake optimism.

And yeah, I’ll meet you in Austin, again. We’ve already crossed paths many times growing up.

Never said anything about fighting nor did I threaten you for the record. I offered you a beer to talk about Utep in person. I said I’m sure you’re not as tough in person, in reference to how you’re quick to talk crap when someone doesn’t agree or you don’t like what they’re saying.

I’m always down for beers and some trash talk with fellow Miner diggers . And for the record, I kept things professional until you decided to start throwing around insults like you were trying to win a message board tough guy contest. But hey, it’s all good. Cease fire activated.

What’s funny is, you’re really gonna trip when you see me in person and it clicks who I am. We go way back you just don’t realize it yet. Small world, huh? Looking forward to catching up.

I’ll go ahead and throw out my next prediction for MWC and PAC to counter Corona’s
New Additions to PAC Texas St. all sports and St. Mary’s Basketball
New Additions to MWC North Dakota St. Football Only. New TV Deal 3.75-4.5 million each school with Air Force and UNLV getting slightly more and N. Illinois, UC Davis and Grand Canyon getting less.

10 Years- No One Effen Knows!!!

I lived in Temple from 2009 to 2011, then moved back to El Paso for a few years before leaving again at the end of 2016. I’ve been in Austin ever since. I really miss traveling to away games at SMU, UNT, UTSA, UH, and Rice. Those were special times and I know it’s something that probably won’t happen again especially with the move to the Mountain West.
