I know some of you are gonna say, Stop being a RaRa or Orange Covered Glasses fan, but facts are facts. I’m more excited than I’ve been in awhile for Football for two reasons. Walden just knows how to motivate both his players and fan base. I am a Big Walden fan so far and I believe he was the right hire and wish we would’ve let go of Golding and got another young coach for basketball. Anyways it’s tbd how this year and next years football results in the MWC will turn out, but I like being one of the top recruiting schools in the Group of 5 that’s for sure! Finally at least for now something to be proud of!

Totally agree with you. Walden has shown many skeptics that you can bring in top talent to El Paso. We’ve been told for many years that you can’t recruit good talent to EP and that’s just not true. Walden has found the secret to attract great talent, despite out football program’s reputation and not having major NIL funding. Walden is building the foundation for a consistent winning program. I understand he still needs to win 6+ games and get us a bowl win, but he’s on the right path. It’s refreshing to see UTEP consistently ranked pretty high in recruiting rankings with G5 schools. You have to appreciate Walden’s positive attitude and enthusiasm he brings to UTEP. I’m really excited about this coming football season and totally behind Walden and our football team.
Like many here, I was initially excited with Golding’s hiring, but I’m terribly disappointed with the basketball team’s lack of success. Golding is not able to recruit and retain top talent at UTEP and his coaching is lacking too. UTEP basketball was once a solid mid-major program, but under Golding this program has regressed. Golding should have been fired last season and we should have brought in a top assistant or HC from a winning program. I’m not expecting much from our basketball program under Golding.

Agree 100% Obviously Walden needs to put some wins together now, to show he can coach, but two years worth of good recruiting will help. I have said before if and that is if Utep Football improves to 6+ wins and going into MWC has what would be the #1 recruiting class there too, year 3 could be fun!

I think it's whoever has the top transfer classes now. Top players from Waldens first class have transferred out already. Idk but I think the new transfer rule is benefiting Utep. The top schools will just steal Uteps good players and pay them more money.

True that’s the way today’s College Football is. However consistently getting top recruits will definitely help. Some will stay and more than that Utep will start being on the map as a school that can recruit. This blue print can change the overall trajectory and mindset of Utep Football. That is if Senter doesn’t get in the way of that progress. Not happy with Basketball right now, but Football is where the money and opportunity are at realistically. Build that into a consistent winner unlike we’ve ever been able to do and things open up for all sports.

I'm on the Walden bandwagon as well. But he will become stale quickly if he doesn't start winning on the field. I expect this upcoming season to be a struggle, but he needs to show improvement as a coach atleast. If he doesn't start the winning by year 3, then it's time to explore getting rid of him. But Senter will probably give him an extension based on the recruiting class championships.

Only been one season Jury is still out. It’s a winnable season that should be set up to win at least 6. I say should…

This might be Waldens best chance to have a winning season. He actually has a veteran team right now, he has 29 seniors. I think his WR core is the deepest Utep has ever had . But after this year conference schedule will be tougher.

Yeah, but I guess I’m banking on a 3rd year of good recruiting and transfers and experienced proven QB by year three.

Will see if he can coach. Last year not a lot of talent. No matter who the coach is, if you don’t have talent you can’t win.
Not even Haskins won when he had limited talent. And he in the HOF.

Year 3 will be a harder road to a winning season. Utep will be at Michigan, Oklahoma and the Mountain West schedule. 😨😨😨

I get that, but the team may be better than it has been in a long time. That is if kids stay and the good recruiting continues. Obviously those two games you mentioned are losses. However the remaining teams in MWC are better, but by no means scary.
