Northern New Mexico

Just turned it on. I'll watch, but probably won't post too much unless the Miners piss me off

One note: so far Bynum has lowered his 3 point shooting percentage by going 0-3

Refs letting them play. Lots of pushing and shoving. Heb was taken down with a WWF throw down and no call?

Ooh. Nice behind the back assist by Thomas. Bynum forcing again. Big Ham playing nice but still gets beat on defense.

Big Ham's first ever steal when hedging. Won't make up for the number of layups he's given up to opposing bigs over the last 3 years while hedging
Totally agree but sometimes he can be a spark. Still waiting on his "A" game to break out.

Is there a UTEP win you ever make positive comments about ? Never in my life have I encountered someone with the level of negativity you possess. Every single win we have you come on here and trash the team
He is absolutely correct. When you lose the rebound battle against NNMC, you should have reason for concern. The Miners have not shown any improvement in that area and we will lose conference games for this reason alone.

I've told you before, I thought the UCSB win was a solid road win, and I thought that they played really well against Seattle. Here is exactly what I said about that game:

I wasn't able to post during the game, but did watch the first 10 minutes or so on my phone while shopping with my wife, heard the rest of the first half on the KROD app while driving home, and then watched most of the 2nd half while doing a myriad of things around the house. These afternoon games are hard fore me to follow properly, and having them during the holiday season makes it all the more impossible.

I said before hand that I thought Seattle was better than their record. I'm not so sure about that now, but I will say that we played our best game of the season. Our bigs had their most productive combined day ever, we hit our shots, and defended well. In the second half, when it is common for teams to lose intensity when up by such a large amount, we never let Seattle cut it to under 20 until we were in garbage time. Great game by the Miners, night and day from what we saw against Utah Valley. Hopefully we can build on this.
I don't, however, praise a team for beating an NAIA team, and if there is a glaring deficiency I'm going to point it out. There is no way that we should give up 14 offensive boards and be out rebounded by an NAIA team. That's pathetic. And our defensive rebounding has been an issue all season.

If we beat LA Tech I will be very happy and give credit where it's due. I will bring up what they did well, but will also talk about glaring deficiencies if I see any. I don't think that being a good fan means praising every little thing that they do.

Yeah but unfortunately this team will NEVER rebound well given the way they play defense. It doesn't matter when you win by 20, but like you said if will cost us a few games against better teams in conference or down the road.

I agree. Golding's teams at ACU weren't great at rebounding either, for additional reference. Alot of that is due to the scheme, but also the personnel. It is tough when you play one "big", and four guard/forwards alot of the time.

I will add that issues with rebounding have already cost the team in terms of losses. All you have to do is look at the box scores against Louisville, SJSU, and Utah Valley. With the exception of Utah Valley, where the team essentially quit (and got killed on the boards), the other two games could have been wins had the team rebounded only slightly better. Golding has acknowledged that this is a big weakness, and that is a major area of focus going against La Tech.

Maniac, while you ARE spot on, a couple other things to consider. How many of their offensive rebounds were when we cleared the bench? How often do 4 guys sprint to the other end when a shot goes up?
Honestly, I HATE the fact we can't seem to keep 2 big guys in there to grab a few damn rebounds, but I "think" it's kind of offset by being one of the best in the country in steals.
Still, get a damn rebound!
