Sorry to tell you this but Dr. Natalicio reached her goal. Make UTEP
a tier 1 school. I believe that being a Tier 1 school is more important.
Now lets hope she can focus on making our athletics a power house.

I could not agree with more.

Athletic wins are just a temporary flash in the pan. UTEP could go 15-0 win a national championship, but that does nothing for the respect of my degree. That undefeated season won't help me get a job.

Top schools like Harvard, Yale, Rice, MIT, etc, don't aren't awarded multi-million dollar NIH grants for their athletic dominance.

I work for UT Health San Antonio, and the researchers here say that being recognized an R1 school is a huge accomplishment.
