Aside from that last scrum and turnover, he’s playing a decent game.
I remember UTEP (Terry) recruiting Tristan Clark out of San Antonio Wagner around the same time he was recruiting Onyema as an after thought. I also remember seeing Nevil Shed talking with Clark at the game with UTSA. In high school, Clark was a man among boys and ended up at Baylor, but unfortunately got injured. Now, Onyema, who no one else even recruited in high school, including Golding, is getting some decent PT in the tourney. Funny how life works out sometimes.
Mcneese St, who plays in a horrible conference and whose coach is openly admitting he’s basically the next NC St coach, just beat Clemson. They went 18-2 in ACC play. There’s no excuses for how awful the UTEP program is.

And all this after losing an All-American to Texas Tech. Imagine only if El Paso/UTEP were similar to Albuquerque/UNM?
New Mexico is about to beat us by 20 annually soon.
People on here were bragging about how good CUSA was this year too…
And one person on here had Liberty going to the sweet 16.
This just further displays how much we sucked down the stretch. I say down the stretch, because there was a time when we loonies like the class of CUSA then NMSU humbled us and we were really never the same again.
WTF happened to Liberty?! I guess they weren’t even worthy of an at large and just proved why our conference wasn’t regarded as being very good even though we had so much parody but it was just a bunch of mediocre teams fighting to be the best average team.
That’s actually not necessarily true at all… CUSA teams have performed surprisingly well over the last 10 years look it up. Liberty was a hot and cold team and if they don’t make 3s they are mediocre at best. Well that happened. I believe Jacksonville St. would’ve actually been a better representative and made it tough on whoever they played. Its also about matchups. San Diego St got hammered in the play in game, Akron got destroyed after dominating the MAC, Utah St. the best MWC team all year got smoked! Just examples of matchups and in a one and done game scenario anything can happen!
Liberty's guards made Oregon's guards look like centers. It would have been nice if Liberty would have made some shots at the start to get a little bit of confidence. But they didn't, and it was obvious that Oregon's length really bothered them.

So I'll say again, it's not that UTEP's early victories over Yale and Liberty or their close losses to Louisville and New Mexico are worth ridiculing, but the problem is that all those teams continued to improve as the season progressed whereas UTEP fell apart.
The Mountain West went 2-2, which is quite respectable.
The question I ask: They got 4 bids, are you saying they did not deserve that many? Because if you do, you are falling on a double edge sword, as when it becomes a different conference with UTEP joining, are there going to be complaints when it could be a 1 bid conference? And instead of 4 teams, it becomes 1? The complaint being that only 1 team made it in when it deserved more.
That would seem hypocritical wouldn't it?
