I have to admit my dislike for Houston comes from my years of going to Utep Houston games … maybe I always sat in the wrong section but those fans were awful each time…. I actually even graduated from there but no one messes with my miners 😂😂
UTEP routinely beat them under Haskins. I remember one year they were in the Sun Bowl Basketball tournament. One year, I remember UTEP beating Baylor, Houston and Texas in the same year.
Even after Haskins, UTEP is 12-10 vs Houston from 2006-2019.
It is really sad where UTEP is in basketball and how far they have fallen. Once you settle for mediocrity that is what you get. It is very hard to break from that because there has to be a real commitment from the President and Athletic Dept to bring about real change. It just seems that UTEP has given up and is good with what they are putting out there.
The issue is that, yes we will change to a better conference, but it just seems like it is going to have disastrous consequences as there is no change in the commitment on hiring better coaches and making any other changes. Still don't understand why you would keep the same coach who has had no success in a much weaker conference, and think all of a sudden he is going to have that success in a better one. Or, if he is a lame duck coach, how is that going to help build a team for success in that conference.
I am sorry, but I don't think that there is any real commitment to success from Wilson as Senter, and Bronzing would have been fired by anyone else had they had these same results elsewhere. By the time they are fired, they will bury the Miners so deep, it will take a miracle to revive them.
