Peytton Pickett?

This one is weird because UTEP announced him as an Official Signee. So is UTEP going to let him out of his LOI? Also, the article says that UMASS Coaches visited him on Saturday Night, but I didn't think that NCAA Coaches are allowed to visit or contact players who have signed a LOI??

Dec. 18, 2015

EL PASO, Texas – Head coach Sean Kugler announced the signing of running back Peytton Pickett out of Arlington Sam Houston High School on Friday.

“Peytton (Pickett) is a very talented back, who has an opportunity to figure into the mix this spring as a mid-year graduate,” Kugler said. “He is a great kid from an excellent family and is an excellent student.”

The 5-foot-10, 195-pound tailback led the Texans in rushing (1,610), total touchdowns (17) and total points (104) during the 2015 season. Pickett gained a career-high 269 yards and scored three touchdowns against Fort Worth Paschal. Pickett rushed for a career-best four scores to open the 2015 season against Manor High School.

Pickett, most importantly, excelled in the classroom, working towards a 3.54 GPA and graduating this December. Pickett will be eligible to participate during the spring season, while he’s the second addition to the program this week after Kugler announced the signing of offensive lineman Tanner Stallings on Dec. 16.

Pickett also received offers from New Mexico, Kansas, SMU and Delaware State.

The remaining signing class will be announced on Wednesday, Feb. 3 on National Signing Day.

Maybe not having an OC at the time affected his decision. If the firing and hiring of coaches is so dysfunctional just imagine his recruitment. Sounds like he is a goner. But I too feel things are looking up in the athletic department! Lol.

The Coaching changes might have affected his decision. But he signed well after our old Coaches were gone and UTEP still would have been required to release him before other NCAA Coaches could have been allowed to contact him/visit him at his house. So if he was released, then why did UTEP never announce nor update their webpage. An LOI must have never been signed with UTEP.

Regardless, I agree, it seems like he is a gone.

This is a huge loss. He was going to fill an immediate need. He already knew Pease was the oc, he has been in place since early december. This makes no sense he graduated in December, we had to have let him out of his loi. I dont get upset about too many decommits, but this one hurts. Still need a running back.

He signed Financial Aid Papers which is non binding, usually kids who do this are expecting a better offer. Maybe I should't say a "better offer", some homers might get butt hurt, lets say he left his options open.

I could totally see him getting cold feet and wanting to commit to SMU or Kansas. Comitting to fbs independent UMASS is a head scratcher

UMass is in the MAC and he was a smart kid maybe it was an education thing.

As long as everything was done "legally", then it is what it is. It's just odd that he would switch away from his signing with UTEP and he committed to another school thousands of miles away, without even visiting that school?(the no-contact period just ended last week and the article says that he committed this weekend after a Saturday in-house Coaches visit). This would mean that the UMASS Coaches switched his signing/commitment in less than a week from the time that the no contact period ended and they did it without a visit to the school?

If the UMASS Coaches starting recruiting him hard when the no contact period ended just last week, then why would he not at least wait and visit UMASS first during the next 2 weekends, then could at least see if he even likes the University/or that part of the nation first before switching his commitment?

He was being counted on for Spring Ball, we didn't bring in a JC RB partly because of him, and his Signing is still up on the UTEP website, so this makes one think that this is a surprise to UTEP.

Decommits always happen at this time of year and they happen to every school. This one is just different because he was announced as signed.

Now, we need to find a RB for this Signing Class. I like Quardaiz Wadley. He was the State 4A Offensive Player of the year, yet somehow UTEP appears to be his only offer. He has good size at 6'1" and is a former teammate of UTEP O-Lineman Chance Bishop:

This was UMASS's last season in the MAC. They are going independent. The MAC booted them because they wouldnt leave the A10 and join the MAC as a full member.

UTEP should probably look into recruiting Wadley's blockers too, he hardly ever gets touched on any of those plays. The d-lines fall like dominoes.

I was looking at last year's decommits:

Last year Demikal Harrison decomitted from UTEP and signed with UNT. He has already left UNT and is now going to a JC back in Oklahoma.

Hunter Thedford also decommitted from UTEP last year and signed with SMU. It appears that he redshirted this past year and is still with SMU.

Jonathan Forrest decommitted and went to Prep School instead. I can't find any information on his current status.

I just read that a LSU Commit for this year has decided to visit Texas, so these things happen to everybody. It's just best to expect that decommitments will happen every year.

Great point all 127 fbs schools will have decommitments. Even Alabama will have a few defections.
