Possible AD

In a related post earlier today, Chanson from Kyyotes Den posted Senter is the new athletic director with the announcement to made by midweek. I think he was the best selection from the three applicants.

I think an outsider is what we need, but only time will tell. The sooner the better so we can name a football coach and get some excitement going around these parts. I know its a rebuild given our players and non-existant recruiting class, but exciting all the same.

Also Senter doesn't know Floyd I assume, so I wonder if they would clash if and when he questions CTF about his plan. Hopefully 'trust me' isn't going to fly.

Floyd’s only chance of saving his job is winning the CUSA regular season championship, making the NCAA tourney, or a first round NIT win. Senter is not going to go for the Barbee left me a mess or transfer epidemic excuses. I can see Senter and Floyd clashing after the season and Floyd throwing in the towel.
I truly hope that this is the case with Senter. He needs to evaluate the entire athletic department, including holding Floyd accountable for his failures. Keep in mind that Floyd has a devoted core of supporters still, primarily due to his Haskins ties. First things first, Senter needs to hire the FB coach asap. He better be ready to hit the ground running to start cleaning a mess that has been years in the making.

One thing I think we need to keep in mind with all the excitement this will generate, is that this ain't gonna be a quick mop up job. It took years for the athletic programs to get to where they are. He's gonna need time. However, we should see continuous improvement, however slight it may be in the beginning, and that is the needle I think we need to gauge progress by.

Agreed. But there's stuff that can be done on day 1,like reaching out to the media and the public. Just giving a darn will be a dramatic change.

Has already been in town before and has toured the facilities. If this is 100% confirmed then he's got the job. I like the hire. New and different vision.
According to Chanson on the other board, when Senter interviewed last week he "hit it out of the ballpark". So a great interview on Monday or Tuesday followed by Lisa Campos withdrawing her name could mean that UTEP knew they had their man. Hope it's true since I think he will be very good for UTEP.

Just the fact that they hired somebody(outside of the friendly confines)is an improvement. Now long term still remains to be seen. On another note are we still excited about that win last week over Louisiana College?

It is for sure glad they went outside the box. Probably means no Price for coach and Floyd winter get special treatment. Time for a new Sheriff, Thanks Natalicio for seeing this.

Just looked him up in Wikipedia to find out something about him. Looks like football and basketball are just about .500 unless I didn't look far enough into the past three years.
Seems like an OK guy, but don't know what's so special about his resume. What can you guys tell me that has you so excited?

So he has midmajor and power 5 experience and has been the AD at a few different schools. I like that he was at SDSU and Colorado for a while. I know Colorado isn't a power in the big 12, but they are in bowl games and the NCAA more often than not. If our football and BB could get on par with a recent SDSU or better, that would be awesome.

So, he was the DB/LB coach at Idaho from 1986-1992. Who was the head basketball coach at Idaho from 1986-1988? Granted a football position coach and the head basketball coach probably aren't doing a whole lot of socializing, but that caught the attention of the conspiracy theorist in me.
Hell you never know. Maybe CTF will have some 'splaining' to do?

Well, number 1, he's different and not a Bob Stull guy. Citadel was 10-2 last season and made the FCS playoffs. They were 5-6 this year in one of the better FCS conferences.

The previous coach, who I believe Senter hired, was Mike Houston who went 9-4 at the Citadel in 2015. He then got hired at James Madison and won the FCS championship last year and is the #1 seed in this years playoffs.

In basketball, he did not renew the contract of a coach (did not hire) who went 42-113 after the 14-15 season after 5 seasons. He hired the coach at VMI and its yet to be determined how it will play out.

Also, the Citadel is a military academy and I believe has above average requirements for its student athletes.

This is a homerun hire.

He is more exciting than Campos and Park.

If Senter is hired as UTEP's AD, it's an in your face repudiation of Bob Stull and his young protege for their terrible job performance the last 8 years.
Finally some hope and good news related to UTEP athletics. Senter just fired the Citadel volleyball coach last week!

Wait.... coaching positions aren't lifelong appointments? A new era.

Can you explain further why you think this is a mistake?

I dont know much about this guy. I honestly just said noooooo because I wanted to see how many posts it would take to connect that nooooo with a floyd comment... and it only took one :):):)

Damn that volleyball coach was only there for 3 years and got the boot for 3 straight losing seasons. Finally we have an AD that sets the expectations bar high for coaches.

Wouldn't it be awesome if Senter came in and fired Floyd on Monday? That would be a heck of a move!

yes that would be brilliant!! i think you all play too much ncaa hoops 2k8 or nba 2k 17.....

It would be brilliant. The season really doesn't begin in March. Having an assistant take over couldn't be any worse.

I think you live in a fantasy world where you think nobody should ever be held accountable for their actions.

But of course you don't care what we all think and you think Tim Floyd is the best coach ever.

I think Diana Natalicio should hold a press conference and have 3 hats on a table. One with LC, then JS, and finally CP. Then she hovers her hand over each one and faking picking up a couple before putting the JS hat on her head.

I just think that is about a dumb a move as dumb gets..... firing your head coach 4 games into a season.... BRILLIANT!
