Props to Senter

Glad he learned his lesson after letting Terry walk away for free.

But in all honesty, who would think that a head coach would leave for an assistant position? I can’t really fault that there wasn’t a buy out for that.

Terry took a demotion and significant pay cut to leave UTEP. And people wonder why some are paranoid Golding would take the first ticket out of EP.

It was certainly a demotion, which made it a surprise, but didn't he get a little bit of a raise to go to UT? Still, most coaches would think that the best way to bigger head coaching job would be to be successful at your current head coaching job. The fact that he left makes me wonder if Terry realized that he wasn't going to get the job done here, and would therefore have zero shot at a bigger shot if he had stayed.

He was probably swinging for the fences on recruits (Jalen Green) and kept striking out. There is no way he could get the next KD to UTEP, and I love UTEP but I got face the hand we are dealt. So I am sure that had something to to with it.

You may be right. If you jump ship before you get fired you avoid the “you got fired” label.

His contract at UT pays him 500k. I think he was making 750k at UTEP.

Terry is no longer responsible for wins and losses. He makes $200,000 less per year, but is still earning 10x as much as “average Americans”.

If ACU doesn’t beat Texas, he is 100% still our coach. Imagine how bad attendance would have been if he had stayed? Even if we won 10 games this year, he would be coaching here next year. UTEP got extremely lucky.
