What does terry need to do to fix this team?? How would you fix it? What does he need this off-season?

in my opinion we need 3 more shooters.....we need to trim some fat off the roster and we do need to bring in another point guard to push bienemy....

If Bryson Williams is coming back, he has an opportunity to improve. If he doesn’t, he should just resign now.

He’s coming back stop whining... how can he fix it ?
He can’t. Are you that dense? (Ok, that came off as more abrasive than it sounded in my mind, so scratch my question)

Lighten up Francis! ( This I meant. As much as I want CRT gone, I was speaking tongue in cheek)

Looking at next year's roster minus Williams, I see one guy who I consider a two way player, which is Boum. The rest of the roster is full of guys who are too flawed on either side of the ball to win consistently; I consider Kennedy, Bieniemy, and Agnew as flawed but serviceable. That said, we need a true 3 and D guy, we could use another ball handler, and of course, we need an interior player try to make up for the loss of Bryson. So, at a minimum, three impact two way players to even have a chance for improvement.

I pointed out a couple of years ago that I didn't like how Terry was trying to build the program. I didn't think it would work here.

To be successful here. A coach has to to recruit high school talent and develop it. The dangerous teams at this level are the teams ladened with experienced juniors and Seniors who have been in the program. A good coach can supplement the talent with Jucos and an occasional transfer. However, the bulk of the squad need to be kids you recruited at developed out of high school. To this point Terry has not shown he has the ability to develop talent. He came here and tried the same exact same strategy Floyd used. Get a bunch of transfers try to catch lightning in a bottle and move on to greener pastures. Both failed spectacularly.

Terry will be here another a two years. I don't expect him to change course. I expect he will double down on his failed strategy and overhaul the roster with transfers. I think things will probably get worse.

All Miner fans are tired of being negative. This has been the worst four year stretch for UTEP athletics I can remember. It's soul crushing. However, I don't think most of us believe there is any way Terry can turn this around. There are very few if any Miner fans who believe in unicorns and fairytales.

Agree in the sense that for Terry to succeed he needs even better players to hide his deciciencies. Unfortunately that will never happen at UTEP.

Now if he wanted to succeed with what he has there are a bunch of changes/adjustments that he could make. It's just not gonna happen so better and more consistent players are his only option. Good luck.

Terry went small at the 10 minute mark of the 2nd half yesterday. BW, Boum, Bieniemy, Agnew and Kennedy. As far as I can remember this was the 1st time we saw this lineup ALL YEAR. Terry had soooo much time to tinker with lineups all season and he does it in a must win game with 10 minutes left and the game on the line?

He had tons of options with his roster this season. He had a lot of room to expand his offense, defense, plays, etc. He had a lot of ways to apply pressure for higher expectations and better play from his guys. There was nothing there from Terry that I could see. Of course he will say different and expect his guys to 'hit more shots'. It will require Terry to have an epiphany and probably insight from other coaches and real pressure fron his bosses for any changes to occur.

I think we need to find someone like Christian Polk, and a moultrie .... we get a lot of open looks from the perimeter we just can’t knock them down

And I do like the idea of another coach to help with the offensive side of the ball

Well, it can. Every now and then UTEP gets to be another chance for a Derrick Caracter. It's just not something we can count on.

Caracter did make the NBA draft. He was a man among boys. BW is 3rd-team all-conference.

DC was 2nd team all-conference and wasn’t even the newcomer of the year. he did make the NBA draft but that’s irrelevant to his play at UTEP. Antonie Gillespie and Randy Culpepper were great players here, but not NBA material.

He was dominant on the inside in ways that BW is not. BW is very talented but has been shut down frequently this season when double-teamed.

If I’m correct he played only half the season because he was a mid year transfer. That’s an impressive feat to make any all conference team while only playing 1/2 the season.

He played all the conference games though. If he only played the non-conference games, he wouldn’t have been voted all-conference. It’s not like he had been in outer space for 2 years. He was practicing with the team.

Also, he had Culpepper, Stone, and Moultrie on his team. Bryson has Boum, Verhouven, and Bieniemy. If you trade DC and BW with this years squad, they would have been worse than 12–12.

That, and.....

An effective press breaker. What I saw this year was cringe worthy for this level of college basketball.

Efe needs to hit the leg machines. He has to be throwing it down when alone under the basket. He blew an easy two last night.

Guards and big men have to work on their chemistry. It doesn't have to be "Stockton & Malone" of the Jazz days but to the point of going the other way without a bucket because our guards and big men are not sync'd is not good.

Bienemy needs to work on his 15' game.

Boum needs to know how to just "pop n shoot" without going "Fast and Furious". Same goes for "Suacy".

CRT needs to know how to knock the opponent out when they're on the ropes. From USM to Kansas. You don't let them back in with just body blows nor by stepping back.

3 ball sucks. You live by it, or die bye it. I realize today's players can shoot a three better than a lay up but no quality inside game is like building a house on clay.

It's sad that certain guys on the team are showing highlights of themselves on social media after losing in the 1st round. Says a lot in my mind.

It’s not my intention to be a downer. I just feel like any CRT coached team, despite the horses we would have at his disposal, would be corralled by subpar coaching.

He doesn’t utilize the talent he has now. There is no discipline. His guys seem to be playing more for the name on the back of the jersey than the front of it. No accountability. Terry is like an old dog who can’t or won’t learn a new trick. I honestly believe better players would go to waste and become insignificant like so many of the guys before them.

El Paso also needs a Joe Muench type in the media who is not afraid to call a spade a spade and call out obvious incompetence and mediocrity in UTEPs athletic department. Senter and his department need to be shamed and held accountable for their performance the last 3-4 years. I was discouraged near the end of Stull’s tenure but under Senter and his minions I am downright disgusted.

"Because the content can be accessed by anyone, it is recommended that student-athletes do not post information -- including photographs and text -- and/or join groups that do not promote positive behavior. Put your viewing setting on “Private” so only your friends can see your postings. As a student-athlete, you are highly visible and many people are interested in you…sometimes, it’s the “wrong kind” of people who could put your career or even your life in jeopardy. Also, use discretion when posting pictures of yourself, your teammates and friends to your website. Digital cameras and cell phones with picture and video capability allow the public to catch you in private moments and easily share those pictures with the rest of the world. Do not allow yourself to be photographed in a compromising situation. A photo could be “tagged” to you, leaving you with little control over the content or usage of the photograph. Bottom line: You are accountable for your social media presence. Understand that inappropriate postings can follow you for life. Do not post anything that would embarrass UTEP, your team or your family. If you believe something you posted would upset your parents, then know that it is going to upset the University, too."

Now with the BLM movement student athletes took to social media and now the shoe was on the other foot as college administrators and coaches had to answer to players.

However, most players do keep it private with "by permission" only. I just read an article that that Pat Summit didn't allow any "visible" tattoo's on players. How the pendulum of time sways.

Talented and Athletic enough to compete for a CUSA title. However not disciplined or well coached. So unless this team pics up a knock down shooter, dominant big man who can score inside to take pressure off Williams and allow him to be more of on inside out guy, this team under terry will underachieve. Oh and if Terry talks to some of his mentors and gets some tips. He gets out coached too much and seems to not have full control of his team.
